Philly is taking over Brooklyn tonight, and no it’s not just because Dylana and I are here wreaking havoc. Philly band Lantern are opening up for the dreamiest of dreams Dirty Beaches and Frankie Rose tonight at Glasslands so make sure you get there early (aka 8:30). Listen to Lantern’s music here.
Dirty Beaches is the handsome Alex Zhang Hungtai, and he’s created a glorious record “Badlands” that is perfect for your vinyl collection. The mixture of his voice (which is reminiscent of the 1950s..swoon) and his progressive lo-fi instrumentals makes his music so distinct and refreshing. Check out one of my favorites “Speedway”:
I am on my way to Brooklyn for a music filled weekend and to bring some Philly style havoc wreaking to the BK. I am so excited to be reunited with one of my best friends from home living in Queens now, and one of my best friends in Brooklyn. It’s going to get really crazy tomorrow when three of my best girls from Philly join us as well…and yes, in case you were wondering this is a warning to lock up your boyfriends this weekend. But in all seriousness, riding on this bus is the most perfect amount of awkward, but also is beautiful watching all the scenery pass by and all the passengers slowly fall asleep even though it’s only 7pm. I’ve been obsessed with this song for some time now and I feel like it’s the perfect soundtrack for this journey right now.
You can purchase this song “Compass Points” on Itunes now:
