REJOICE!!! Freelance Whales are back with a killer new track and US tour! What could be better?? “Spitting Image” is the first single off their upcoming album Diluvia, out October 9th on Mom + Pop Music / French Kiss Records, and it’s absolutely brilliant! Starting in October, Freelance Whales will be playing an epic US tour that starts in Chicago on October 4th and ends on November 3rd in Boston. Philadelphia will be their second to last tour date on November 2nd at Union Transfer and you can get tickets now here for only $15 (and it includes the new album!!! what?!). So make sure you get yours soon! Until then, enjoy playing “Spitting Image” on repeat, or is that just me?
You might not believe it, or maybe your heart can’t take it, but yet another dreamy band from New York has surfaced and they are called DIIV, pronounced “dive” not “div”.
DIIV’s debut album Oshin is out now through Captured Tracks and if the rest of the record is anywhere near as glorious and heart-melting as this track, “How Long Have You Known?”, I can’t wait to get my hands on it!! Being that they are from NY, I am ashamed that I haven’t made it to any of their shows yet, but lucky for me they are on tour and playing in Philadelphia with Wild Nothing and Blonds on Monday, September 24th at Union Transfer!! DIIV are playing Germany, Denmark and Sweden this week alone, so go see them live if they are playing near you. In September, they are coming back to the US to play some shows in the US and Canada so make sure you check out the dates and track them on Songkick (if you are like me and treat your Songkick as your planner). I can’t wait to get this record, hear more from the band, and see them live!! aaaaaand you can bet I will be playing “How Long Have You Known?” on repeat all day today.
Yeah, so, umm, WAIT A SECOND!!!! Everything Everything are finally back after what feels like two long years of me Facebook/twitter begging them to come back on tour in the US specifically to Philadelphia….wait it has been two long years of that. One of my favorite bands ever have released a new single “Cough Cough” that is hard to describe besides: badass, epic and absolutely brilliant! Luckily that have also released an equally incredible music video for us to listen to the track over and over until it releases on October 14th. Be still my heart, Everything Everything! This is everything I hoped and dreamed of for your return!! I absolutely cannot wait for the new album which drops January 14th, and hopefully some touring in the US *coughcough* Philadelphia? Too soon?
I am super stoked to announce that I am now also writing for the sweet UK music blog and online radio station The Chaunt. This is one of my first posts for them but obviously I had to let you all know about this incredible new album by Richard Hawley out today in the US (finally!).
Richard Hawley is an absolute legend. You might know him from 1990s Brit-Pop group Longpigs, his playing with Pulp, his work with Elbow, or maybe his knee-weakening collaboration with another bunch of musicians from Sheffield, Arctic Monkeys track “You And I”?
Maybe this will be your first time hearing him, either way, it’s your lucky day. Richard Hawley has a new album out Standing at the Sky’s Edge available through Mute Records in the UK and in the US today!
From it he is releasing his new music video for his second single off the album “Down in the Woods”. The single is a perfect example of his mystical, entrancing vocals and his gritty, raw, textured and straight up mesmerizing guitar sound. Some of my favorite tracks from the album are “She Brings The Sunlight”, “Down In The Woods”, “Leave Your Body Behind You” and “Before”. I’ve been obsessed with everything I’ve heard from AlunaGeorge so far, they are definitely one of my favorite bands right now. But, this track….. IS MY JAM. I heard this and my heart stopped, I love it so much. The production is brilliant, the lyrics are incredible, the track is a perfect mixture of chill with an addicting refrain that is impossible not to get your dance on to. “Your Drums, Your Love” will be available to download on October 7th, and you can play around making your own version with a sampler app on their website here. AlunaGeorge will be playing some gigs in the UK and France so look for dates near you here!!
I love this gorgeous song from Beat Culture so much! It is the first (unmastered) single from his debut LP Forgive due out October 11th. I am absolutely obsessed with this girl power DIY-pop trio from Liverpool. Their song “Genevieve” is a mystical 70s hippie and mod dream, with gorgeous vocal harmonies and addicting guitar and drums that make it impossible not to dance. Their debut record, Into The Diamond Sun became available Monday (UK) (Tuesday 8/27 US) through Heavenly Recordings / Cooperative Music on CD, digital download, and limited glitter vinyl (!!! someone send me one!!!). I have to get my hands on at least two copies of that glitter vinyl, one to play endlessly and one to hang on my wall. These chicks are rad, I just bought a ticket to London over New Year’s and I hope I get to see some bands like this live while I am there!
Check out the sweet new music video for one of my favorite songs off of Grimes’ album Visionsout now!! The video for “Genesis” was released by Grimes today. I especially appreciate the absolutely epic hair and amazing shoes in this video! Tomorrow Grimes will be stopping at ENTER in Ibiza from 10pm-Midnight so if you are there make sure you don’t mis it. Grimes will be touring this fall starting in Canada on September 20th and will be stopping by Union Transfer in Philadelphia on September 27th!! The Oakland dream team otherwise known as Weekend are leaving Oakland behind to join a bunch of your other favorite bands in the beauty of Brooklyn. To say farewell properly, they are having a special bon voyage show in Oakland, CA on September 15th at The Uptown. To greet their new neighbors (and probably recruit movers) they are having a special Brooklyn show on September 25th at Cameo Gallery! The band is currently working on their follow up record to their 2011 Sports LP, due out this Fall, so maybe you will hear some new tracks at the shows (fingers crossed!). Make sure you check them out if either show is near you. Welcome to the East Coast boys!!!
