late night listen xx: Little Comets “Woman Woman” (acoustic)!!!

18 Jun

Little Comets

My heart is exploding with joy. One of my top favorite bands is back with a new album Life Is Elsewhere out now in the UK, and out in the US in August!!!

I’ve been following Little Comets since 2010, their debut album In Search Of The Elusive Little Comets was one I played over and over, introducing every friend and new friend I had and made to their music. Their vocal harmonies are breathtaking, their instrumentals exciting, and their storytelling lyrics smart and inspiring. I was lucky enough to see them live (a couple of times!) at SXSW and meet them, and their personalities matched how gorgeous the music they make is. This acoustic taste of their new album, “Woman Woman” makes waiting for August seem like torture. I hope they release the album on vinyl because I feel like it will be one your children/grandchildren will find one day and be floored by. I can’t wait to hear more new music from them and you know I will post it for you as soon as I do.

obsessed xx: Peace cover Disclosure’s “White Noise”!!!

PEACE by Cher Dunn

That’s not all they cover…there is a mix of Stevie Wonder, Bee Gees and Pink Floyd in there too…and it’s brilliant.

Peace played an epic set in Philadelphia at Johnny Brenda’s last week with Weekender and NY band Team Spirit opening with high energy and catchy grooves. The crowd packed the balcony and gathered around the stage as Peace performed a perfect mixture of their singles fans have known and loved including “Follow Baby” and their most recent single “Lovesick” and a slew of their brilliant new songs from their debut album In Love out now! Check out some images from the show below:

late night listen xx: Close “My Way” feat. Joe Dukie

17 Jun

close

Listen now to the second official single from Getting Closer by CLOSE, the new project of producer, DJ, and label owner Will Saul. The track features the super hot and soulful vocals of Joe Dukie of Fat Freddies Drop. Saul says of working with Dukie:

“For me Joe Dukie has one of the best voices on the planet so it was a bit of dream come true to get to work with him. I worked with Fink in his studio in Brighton where we recorded his band (drummer and bass player) – the instrumental is all live and one take. We then sent this over to Dallas (Joe Dukie) and he sent back his vocals. Midland and Dusky are part of my core crew at Aus and really hitting their stride at the moment so natural choices for remixers for this single”

“My Way” will be available to purchase with remixes from Dusky, Midland, and Tanner Ross on June 24th, and the album Getter Closer is out now through !K7 Records!

listen/watch: Foals new music video for “Bad Habit”

17 Jun

Bad Habit mylifeinsound

Foals have released another NSFW music video for their track “Bad Habit”, watch it now below!

The video has some pretty surreal, must-see imagery, and the desert backdrop is breathtaking. The video follows Foals’ lead singer Yannis Philippakis as he chases after a girl throughout the video, while looking in desperate need of a shower, change of clothes, and drink of water… as you do when you run though desert in pursuit of your nude supermodel love. The video was shot in the desert by the director Nabil, who also produced their last NSFW music video “Late Night” which you can also watch below:

Philly shows NOT to be missed: Sam Amidon at Johnny Brenda’s and Junip at Union Transfer!!!!

16 Jun

Junip

Happy Father’s Day!! If you are still looking for something awesome to do with your Dad, or coming back to Philly after a great day with your family, there are two shows tonight that are definitely worth your attention, and ears.

Tonight Swedish trio Junip which features the breathtaking vocals and guitar of Jose Gonzalez along with Elias Araya (drums) and Tobias Winterkorn (organ, moog), will be making their last stop of their North American tour supporting their self-titled sophomore record right here in Philly at Union Transfer.

Junip was written and recorded in the hometown of the band Gothenberg, Sweden, a city that has in the past, and more recently, given us a lot of great music. The same proves for this new record! The band decided to use the same rehearsal space and producer, Don Alsterberg, as their 2010 debut album Fields, and felt that the songs on this new record represented them so well a self-title seemed appropriate, as Gonzalez stated,

“All the ups and downs were very ‘Junip,’ so titling it with our name seemed appropriately iconic. It’s truly a band album.”

Junip is out now so make sure you pick the album up at your local record store or at the show tonight. The live performance is bound to be just as, if not more, moving, magical, and powerful as their music is on record, so fans this is not a show to miss! Doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 8:30, so make sure you get there on time to catch the bands support for the evening Birdie Busch and the Greatest Night and Barbarossa. Tickets are $18 and you can get them here or at the Union Transfer Box Office!

Junip “Your Life, Your Call”

Junip “Line of Fire”

sam-amidon

Such two dreamy shows happening at the same time, why aren’t they together?

Sam Amidon is a mesmerizing vocalist with a voice that sounds like it’s from another time, a pure great American storyteller whose medium is music. His lyrics are so vivid they are truly moving, they make you feel like you are part of a movie or someone else’s story…feeling almost guilty that you’re listening in but they sound so beautiful you just can’t stop. Pair that with banjo playing you can absolutely get lost in, and you have an album that will be on repeat for a long time, and it’s called Bright Sunny South.

Tonight Sam Amidon will be playing at Johnny Brenda’s celebrating his debut album Bright Sunny South out now through Nonesuch Records! Doors are at 7PM and the show starts at 8PM with The Heaven and The New Earth playing at 8pm, Alessi’s Ark playing at 9pm and Sam Amidon playing at 10pm! Tickets are only $10 and you can get them here or at the door. Make sure you get there with enough time to see all the bands and pick up your copy of Bright Sunny South at the show! Sam Amidon has a couple more dates in the US before he heads overseas, check out some of his music videos below and more tour dates here.

Road Trip Jams: Pond “Giant Tortoise”

15 Jun

POND

Today I am roadtripping 5? 6? hours to Pittsburgh to see Peter Frampton’s Guitar Circus with my Dad! Happy Father’s Day Weekend y’all!!

I am super stoked because I am pretty sure I got us amazing seats a century ago when I bought our tickets and the day is finally here. Of course we will be listening to Peter Frampton in the car but you know I will be introducing my Dad to the sweet sounds of some of my favorite Australians who know a thing or two about how to use a guitar, Pond.

“Giant Tortoise” is from Pond’s new album Hobo Rocket due out August 2nd (AUS)/ 5 (EU/UK)/6(US)! Check out the epic music video for it below and have a great weekend surrounded by your families and friends!
