Midnight Magic are a 9-Piece party from NYC and tonight they are taking over The Barbary. Since the Barbary is small I am hoping this means members of the band will be playing their instruments randomly around the Barbary Love Actually style instead of trying to fit on one stage, but that just be me.

But on a serious this band rules!! Their music reminds me of the 1970s disco era I am very upset I did not get to experience first hand. Their music makes me want to put on roller skates and roller disco around my house.

Just saying, the Barbary does have wooden floors and a disco ball sooo….

Boys Noize will be heating up the dance floor of the TLA tonight with DJEDJOTRONIC and Sammy Slice as support! Boys Noize just released a new track “yellow” you can buy and listen to here. Finally tonight I will be going to see one of my favorite bands, Other Lives, who are returning to Philly to play Johnny Brenda’s!!! After touring with Radiohead, and playing Coachella, Other Lives took some time to record and release their new EP Mind The Gap which is an absolutely brilliant taste of what their next record could bring. Thom Yorke lead super-group Atoms For Piece even recorded a remix of Other Lives’ “For 12″ for the EP. I am interviewing lead singer, multi-instrumentalist, and dream of all dreams Jesse Tabish, so look for that in the future on our YouTube channel. The show starts at 9PM at Johnny Brenda’s and make sure you get there on time to see opening band Indians! Tickets are $14 and on sale here!

This week was a little crazy, I still can’t believe tomorrow is Monday. I worked a lot, but also had a great time being able to go home and see family for Thanksgiving, and celebrate two of my best friends (twins) birthday the night before. Catching up with friends from high school that are in different states right now was awesome, and I got to do that twice this week. It’s easy to forget how stressful work can be with friends that love to dance as much as I do.

On my normal routine walk to my favorite cafe/record store in Philadelphia, Milkcrate, I saw dollar records for sale outside. I was on the phone with my mom who was super confused why I kept mentioning it was freezing outside every five minutes. I shamefully admitted that I was outside scouring through the dollar records bin… “Oh no Cheryl, stop looking….dollars add up.” I said my reply which she already knew was following, “I know, but I…can’t…stop”. Thirty-five dollars later and 35 brilliant classics to add to my collection, I walked out of Milkcrate with a smile on my face and a tear in my wallet. I definitely broke out the Nile Rodgers classic albums I bought that night for a mini dance party at my house before going out with my friends to dance at the bars. Sometimes, there is nothing better than dancing to your own records in your room, and I can’t wait to listen to all my new finds.

Tomorrow is back to work for a crazy hectic week, but I definitely have some after-work fun to look forward to. Tomorrow night, Florida-based band Saskatchewan will be playing Ortlieb’s Lounge in Philly for…um, what? Only $5… Don’t mind if I do!

Saskatchewan’s music is super chill and dreamy, and I can’t wait to hear it live. Saskatchewan will be playing five more shows after Philadelphia on this tour including dates in North Carolina, Georgia, and ending in their home state of Florida in early December. Best weekend ever? This one definitely makes the list. Friday night I volunteered at the Honda Civic Tour show featuring Incubus and Linkin Park with Headcount, non-profit that gets music fans to register to vote. Usually we watch the show from the lawn area after volunteering at that venue, but Reverb surprised us with pit passes! I almost passed out. It was my 10th time seeing Incubus and I thought, would be also the farthest away I’ve ever seen them. When I got into the pit I danced my way to the second row right in front of Ben Kenney and experienced one of the best performances and set lists from the band so far. They really tore it up! I was in heaven. I had such a good time singing (screaming) all the words and dancing my heart out I could barely walk back to my car after. My 10 show anniversary with them was brilliant! Saturday I woke up early to journey to NY for the Converse City Carnage show featuring Viva Viva, Black Bananas and The Kills. I was so stoked to represent Volcom Girls there and see two of my favorite bands, Black Bananas and The Kills, while gaining a new favorite band, Viva Viva. All three bands rocked so hard and were incredible live. Jennifer Herrema and Alison Mosshart are absolute rock goddesses and I look up to them so much, I was floored with the opportunity to see them back to back. My friends already think know I am a psycho when it comes to music I love. Not having someone to go to a show with? No problem, I’m going anyway. They are only playing 2 hours away in NYC on a work night? No problem, I’m going anyway. Pretty sure over the past 2 weeks I’ve gotten maybe 10 hours of sleep total. But as dazed as I am, my heart is the happiest it has ever been. This week started out with my trek to NYC to see Bombay Bicycle Club Monday night then Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Tuesday (post soon to follow), but Wednesday, originally thought to be my “night of rest” (yeah right, funny joke I just told) ended with me getting a last minute ticket invite to M83, one of my absolute favorite bands to see live (thanks Mute you fucking rock!!!).

I brought my roommate Dylana, we both had just saw M83 at Union Transfer and have been dying to see them again since, so we were lucky they decided to come back to Philly so soon to play The Electric Factory.

Dylana and I are both absolutely obsessed with the bassist of M83 (who we sadly learned obviously has a girlfriend, sorry ladies…) because he goes bananas on stage, has the best dance moves, and really knows how to play cowbell (among his other instruments: bass, keys, etc.) see below:

Before even going into the venue Dylana could not shut up about them hopefully playing “Sitting” and when the time came during the show we went nuts.

*Spoiler Alert* If you are going to see M83 for the first time or plan on it (as you should) do not read the following: I ran into another friend in the crowd who had never seen M83 live before, and I wish to God I had video taped her reaction when the jazz saxophonist came out on stage for the solo during “Midnight City” it was sheer double-rainbow status and could have easily been played by Kristen Wiig on SNL, “Oh my Goooooood, oh my Goooooood, look!! look at him!!! the jazz saxophone!!! ooh my Gooooood!! He is so good!! he has been waiting for this the whole show!!! This is his moment!!! This is it!!! This is what he has been waiting…he has been waiting this whole time!!!!” Serious tears in my eyes laughing at her reaction, it was such a beautiful moment to witness in someone’s life. Overall, the show, once again fucking rocked. Which is why, we couldn’t be more stoked to learn that Philly’s favorite dream band, Sun Airway, will be opening up for M83 in October in NYC.

Obviously, we are going (third time this year is a charm!). Sun Airway recently released a single off their upcoming album Soft Fall due out October 2nd called “Close”. I am fucking obsessed with it and the rest of the album. If Soft Fall was a man I would take his hand, drive to Vegas immediately and marry him. I could listen to it on repeat for the rest of my life and be happy. Soft Fall the perfect mixture of dreamy layered instrumentals, romantic lyrics, tracks to chill out to and tracks to dance to until the sun rises. I cannot wait to see them open for and entrance the unsuspecting fans of M83 into a captivating state of love. But don’t listen to me, listen “Close” and decide for yourself.

It’s Firefly Music Festival day two and I cannot wait to see Ra Ra Riot, Imagine Dragons, Polica, Grouplove, Graffiti6, Cake, Modest Mouse, Yeasayer, and of course The Killers!!!
