sigh. Alt-J seriously can do no wrong. Just as the needle of my record player was about to burn a hole in my Alt-J debut record An Awesome Wave from listening to it too much, I was ecstatic to see-via their Facebook-a new track thanks to the upcoming film Silver Linings! The film stars a bunch of rad people including the foxiest of foxes Bradley Cooper…see below.
I’m guessing the movie is a cute love story about two crazies that fall in love. Let’s face it though, it doesn’t really matter what the film about because I am getting a vision of Bradley Cooper with Alt-J playing in the background and I’m pretty sure you can’t get much better than that.
Check out Alt-J’s new track featuring Mountain Man “Buffalo” below and make sure you see them live and buy their record if you don’t have it already. Or a second or third copy from when your first one gets worn down from you playing it too much.
This week is jam packed with crazy good shows in Philadelphia, starting tonight at The Blockley with a late night DJ set from one of my favorite bands, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. starting at 9PM. Get your tickets here!
Tomorrow night the ultra-fun Brooklyn cats in Eytan and the Embassy will be playing a show at Milkboy! The show starts at 9PM and you can get your tickets here. So strap on your dancing shoes and dress as your favorite artist in the video below and meet me there!
Friday, the absolute dreams known as Alt-J will be playing at Johnny Brenda’s and the show starts at 9:30 PM. You can get your tickets here. If you couldn’t already tell with my previous Alt-J obsessed posts, Alt-J has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard their music. Every song I hear by them I’ve loved. Their debut album An Awesome Wave released in UK/EU/AU in May is already gaining well deserved award-nominating attention. An Awesome Wave comes out in the US on September 18th so Friday is the perfect time to hear new songs before the album drops! Or you can memorize all the misheard lyrics and throw the crowd off a bit for fun.
Following the release of their brilliant new album Four, Bloc Party are back to play Philadelphia at the Trocadero on Saturday!!!! The show was originally set for Tower Theatre but recently got moved. If you have your tickets to the Tower you can use them for the new venue, just make sure you get to the Trocadero for the show at 8. Tickets are still available here!
So many shows this week to look forward to, this week is definitely going to be rad!!!
So you all can probably tell I am obsessed with Alt-J even though I can’t understand a damn word the lead singer says. Their album An Awesome Wave is out now so make sure you get your copy, your ears will thank you. Basically, I’ve loved everything I’ve heard from Alt-J which makes buying their album a no-brainer. Known for their sometimes incomprehensible vocals/lyrics, Alt-J makes exciting, epic, strange, layered, incredible music that absolutely rocks and sounds like no one else out there now. Whenever I am at work and don’t have all my music on me, I get lost on Youtube listening to some of my favorite songs randomly. Luckily, of the things that brings the most sunshine to my life is Youtube comments. Some of the top comments can be absolutely hilarious or in this case, epically useful. When listening to one of my favorite Alt-J songs, “Fitzpleasure” I came across this top comment:
“How to get the most out of Alt-J;
1. Listen to this song.
2. Open another tab of the same song.
3. Play the song from the other tab exactly 5:00 seconds later.
4. Watch your mind explode.
Obviously, I did this right away..and it did blow my mind. So you should do it too.. I am going to make it easy and put this video in here twice so you don’t even have to open a new window. You’re Welcome.
YAY! Leeds group Alt-J released today a gorgeous new song, “Something Good” and a date for their debut album to drop, May 28th!! I am so excited for the new record. I’ve truly loved and enjoyed everything I’ve heard so far from Alt-J and can’t wait for my ears to get lost in the glorious sounds of the new album. This song “Something Good” will be on the record “An Awesome Wave” which comes out in a mere 10 days. Listen to the track below and click the link within soundcloud to pre-order the album!
