obsessed xx: Tame Impala covers OutKast’s “Prototype”!!

7 May

Tame Impala

*Sigh* I think I’m in love again with Tame Impala! Though, to be fair, I never really stopped…

Tame Impala recently went into the studio of an Australian radio station and were asked to do a cover. Naturally, they chose one of their favorite songs, “Prototype” by OutKast (RIP/Please Come Back). Their banter before the song makes my heart even more sad we are not best friends yet and Nick and Kevin’s rendition of Andre 3000 is too good to be true.

Between the spot-on back and forth vocals, dreamy guitars, and baby-making bass line, Tame Impala’s version of “Prototype” makes you weak in the knees and makes you really want to go to the movies. I cannot wait to see this band live again, and to hear more new music from them, cover or not! Make sure you pick up a copy of their new record Lonerism from your local record store or here through their website!

lovelovelove: First Aid Kit “Emmylou”

18 Jan

First Aid Kit consists of two gorgeous sisters from Stockholm, Sweden who make absolutely beautiful music together. “Emmylou” is the second single from their new album, The Lion’s Roar comes out next Tuesday, January 24th. I love their light, vintage, acoustic-folk sound, their effortless vocal harmonies, and their beautiful storytelling lyrics. They are playing at Union Transfer in Philly on March 31st! You can purchase tickets here. Their tour starts in February, so if you don’t live in Philly and love their music make sure you check out their tour dates here! Watching these sisters perform together is just inspiring, even when it’s on tv. Last year they performed Patti Smith and Ivan Kral’s “Dancing Barefoot” at the Polaris Music Prize ceremony, and brought Patti Smith, watching in the audience, to tears. How incredible it must have been to even perform that song in the same room, let alone have your performance move her to tears. Listen to “Emmy Lou” and check out the video of First Aid Kit performing “Dancing Barefoot” below:

Cee Lo Green covers Band of Horses “No One’s Gonna Love You”

AMAZING. One of our favorite artist covers another one of our favorite songs, what could be better? xx

inlust.

This should also go into the amazing covers/music video category but I had to make an inlust category for James Blake after hearing his music and seeing this video I developed a school girl crush I just could not deny. I hate to admit it but my inlust posts features those musicians you can’t help but have a crush on haha.

First up, James Blake:

Second, Gary Lightbody. You might know him from Snow Patrol, but his supergroup Tired Pony is incredible and I had the good fortune of seeing them in NY this past tour, it was truly one of the best shows of my life. He is an incredible songwriter, musician, and person. love.

incredible covers

19 Dec

I love when you hear a cover and it really gives a song new life or takes it into a different direction; here are a few of my favorites:

If you saw This is England I am sure you appreciate this cover that much more, if you haven’t seen it, go see it now:

I’ll post more about him later, but one of the million reasons why I love Mark Ronson (this also goes into the incredible music videos category):

I hate to admit it but I definitely like Skream‘s remix better than the original song:
