Philly show NOT to be missed xx: Disclosure TONIGHT at Union Transfer!!!!!

Holy. Shit. I am definitely partied out from the glorious heaven that is SXSW. While falling asleep at my desk and drinking a caffeine diet, nothing is stopping me from seeing Disclosure again TONIGHT at Union Transfer. I’ve been waiting a long time to see the two glorious producers from the UK to show face in Philly after seeing them in NYC and, of course, last week in Texas.

Disclosure are releasing their debut album this year, and after burning a hole through their mixtapes and seeing some of those songs performed live, I can not wait to get my hands on a copy. When I saw them play at Fader Fort last week, I was surrounded by non-fans at the show, but that didn’t stop me from dancing as hard as I could, making everyone else around me feel weird and uncomfortable until they started dancing too. Another pleasant surprise was when the Howard started singing over a new track,”F For You”. They haven’t released any tracks like this before, and I was stunned by how gorgeous his voice was. Once you hear it, you can’t believe they haven’t done that already, on all of their tracks. But thank goddess they leave room for other talent as some of my favorite artists have sung on their tracks, including Sam Smith, Ria Ritchie, and AlunaGeorge. Seeing Disclosure live is an experience. They don’t just mess around with turntables, they sing, play bass guitar, play drums, even instruments that seem minuscule…like egg shakers… add so much more to their live sound and performance. I always have a major dance workout when seeing them live and I can’t wait to repeat it tonight.

By some miracle the show is not sold out and cheap as hell, so make sure you get your tickets here or at Union Transfer tonight! The show starts at 8:30 and tickets are $17. See you on the dance floor!

Philly show NOT to be missed xx: Cold Specks at Johnny Brenda’s TONIGHT!!!

28 May

Happy Memorial Day!! Today I am celebrating all the amazing men and women who have fought for our country over the years at my parents super rad annual memorial day party. It’s so nice to spend some time with the fam and my friends from home. As much fun as I am having today, I cannot wait to get back to my home of Philly tonight to see London’s Cold Specks with Great Lake Swimmers at Johnny Brenda’s. Cold Specks is 24-year-old Al Spx who just released her debut album I Predict A Graceful Expulsion through Mute Records which you can buy here. The album is moving, gentle music perfectly mixed with Al Spx’s rough, real voice that carries a beauty, toughness, and maturity that sounds well beyond her young age. Some of my favorite tracks from the album include “Winter Solstice”, “Hector”, “Blank Maps”, and the choral “Send Your Youth”. I am so excited to get the chance to see and hear them live tonight! Get your tickets for tonight’s show at Johnny Brenda’s here, and I hope to see you there!
