16 May

YAY!!!!!! One of my favorite dance music producers, Duke Dumont, will be in Philadelphia tonight to play Snacks at The Dolphin! Tickets are only $5 and you can get them here or at the door.

Duke Dumont had me when I first heard his track “No Money Blues”, and every song I heard since became a new favorite. Perfect for the dance floor, “Need U (100%)” and “The Giver” have been go-to songs for me whether I am getting ready, getting through the work day, or out with my friends. I can’t wait to hear all of those tracks live tonight on the dance floor with some of my best friends! Duke Dumont will be heading to Boston next and finishing this tour in Montreal before heading back to tour the UK. Make sure you get your tickets here!

*Note: The show in Philly was originally scheduled to be at Voyeur, it is now at The Dolphin, see you tonight!

Philly show NOT to be missed xx: Lantern and The Veils at Johnny Brenda’s tonight!!!!

9 May

the-veils

London’s The Veils are back with their first record in four years, Time Stays, We Go and will be at Johnny Brenda’s tonight to play some new tracks and old favorites live! Doors are at 8PM, the show is at 9PM and the tickets are only $12! You can get yours here or at the door. Philadelphia’s own Lantern are opening so make sure you get to the show on time.

The Veils new album,Time Stays, We Go, was produced by lead singer/songwriter Finn Andrews with the help of producer Adam Greenspan who has worked with Divine Fits and Arcade Fire. The band coerced retired English producer/legend Bill Price (The Clash, Jesus & Mary Chain) to mix the record to tape at Metropolis Studios in London, giving the record a unique and rich vintage sound rarely heard in music today. The album is a perfect mix of upbeat, raw, addicting tracks and dark yet soothing slow jams. The record is bound to sound epic live and I can’t get in on the action tonight at Johnny Brenda’s! If you don’t have it already, make sure to pick the record up at the show tonight, at your local record store, or here through their website.

obsessed xx: New track from The 1975 “Haunt // Bed” from their forthcoming “IV” EP!!!

8 May

The 1975 Logo

The1975pic

The 1975 released the gorgeous second track of their forthcoming IV EP, “Haunt // Bed” due out the 20th of May on Dirty Hit / Polydor in the UK. Hauntingly beautiful and slow dance ready, “Haunt // Bed” is five minutes and five seconds of pure heart-wrenching heaven. With a repetition of the phrase “I’m not scared” that gets stuck in your head and heart so quickly, the song feels like something you now know you needed in your life, without knowing anything was missing.

The 1975 have been selling out shows across the globe and rightfully so, I’ve seen them twice since March and I cannot get enough. They are touring the UK at the end of the month and coming back to the US in June to tour with another one of my favorite bands, The Neighbourhood. The boys will be stopping in Philly to play Union Transfer for the first time with The Neighbourhood on Tuesday, June 25th! I can’t wait! You can get your tickets for all tour dates below here, and make sure you do, because they are incredible live!

Philly show NOT to be missed xx: DRAGONETTE at Union Transfer, May 5th.

4 May

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

DRAGONETTE at Union Transfer, May 5th.  To go or not to go?

Go, obviously.

I’ll make this easy for you:

  1. Martina Sobara, part stage-twirling vocalist, part Canadian pixie, will have both your hands in the air.
  2. Common genre tags on Dragonette’s SoundCloud page include, “Dancepop”, “Joy”, “disco suave”, and “Dirrrrrttttyyy”.  Catch their drift?
  3. Philadelphia is the FIRST stop on Dragonette’s tour.  Expect extra umph.
  4. Aussie electro-wizards, The Presets, and LA’s disco groovy duo, Classixx, are the other acts on Sunday night’s bill, making this show an absolute hat trick.
  5. This song:

Dragonette is a Canadian electro-pop trio driven by heavy-hitting electro rhythms, pulsing beats, and sing-along choruses.  I’ve had a chance to see them live before, and their show is glued to my memory as being fun, loud, indigo, bumping, and with a substantial amount of open mouthed smiling, eyes closed.  Check out Dragonette’s third studio album, Bodyparts, released September 2012.

Hope to see you there.  Let’s party, yeah?  And don’t be late.  Classixx is too good.

Cheers,

Steph

obsessed xx: The 1975 release new music video for “The City”!!!!!

25 Apr

The1975pic

What a great morning, to wake up and see this in my email. The 1975 released a gorgeous new video for their single “The City”, and as I expected I’m obsessed with it. Shot in black and white, the video features some breathtaking imagery of not only the band playing, but tiny stories played out by actors, some with moving projections of city life covering their skin. Their single “The City” is one of the incredible tracks from their self-titled upcoming album The 1975 due out (hopefully) this September. I seriously cannot wait for this record to come out. I need to make sure there is a vinyl with my name on it on my record player no later than October 1st…it will most likely be on constant rotation in my house from that point on (sorry I’m not sorry in advance housemates!). But until then, their next EP IV will be out May 20th! The 1975 will be back in the US to tour with The Neighbourhood! Both bands will be playing Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia on June 25th, tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon here!

obsessed xx: The 1975 cover Chris Malinchak’s “So Good To Me” / US tour with The Neighbourhood!!!!

24 Apr

THE-1975

By now, I am pretty sure you all know that this is how I feel about The 1975:

how I feel about the 1975

Like a million other hearts around the globe, my heart exploded when I heard The 1975 play an absolutely breathtaking cover of “So Good To Me” by Chris Malinchak, one of my favorite songs ever, for BBCR1′s Live Lounge Late last night. Although I’ve seen The 1975 live twice since March (spoiled, I know) I am on the edge of my seat waiting for them to release their new album (out May 20th UK) and come back to America to serenade me…I mean us.

Cher Dunn 1975

After their last show in Philadelphia at Kung Fu Necktie I asked them when they are coming back. They reassured me that they would be returning to play Johnny Brenda’s with none other than fellow band-of-dreamboats The Neighbourhood, whose debut album I Love You is out now on Columbia! Lo and behold, I woke up to a Songkick notification today that this show will be happening at Johnny Brenda’s on Tuesday June 25th! Tickets are only $12 (what!?) so get one for you and all your friends when they go on sale this Friday at 12PM EDT here!!!

obsessed xx: Music video for Duke Dumont ft. A*M*E “Need U (100%)”!!!!

17 Apr

duke_dumont_essential_mix

I have to say for a song I love so, so, SO much…this is the best possible music video I could have ever seen for it. Follow the life of a man who swallowed a boom box, which unfortunately for him is playing “Need U (100%)” on repeat…leading everyone around him to dance maniacally while he tries to go about his normal life. Check out the hilarious video now, and make sure you see Duke Dumont on his short run of US tour dates, hitting Voyeur in Philly on May 16th!! See you on the dance floor!

Philly show NOT to be missed xx: Young Man at North Star Bar TONIGHT!!!

11 Apr

Young-Man

Tonight there is an absolutely epic, dreamy, night of music taking place at one of my favorite intimate venues in Philly, North Star Bar. Chicago’s brilliant Young Man, will be performing with Philly greats Mike Bruno & Black Magic Family Band and Gemini Wolf, as well as Florida’s Peace Arrow as support.

Young Man is on tour in support of their new record, Beyond Was All Around Me, out now on Frenchkiss Records (one of my favorite labels!). The album is the closing record in a trilogy by Young Man including 2011′s Ideas of Distance and 2012′s Vol 1. The album opens with an enchanting and soothing “It’s Alright” and leads into the upbeat, cheeky “Josie”, and gets absolutely real with the third track (and my favorite) “In Time”. “In Time” is 6 minutes and 59 seconds of absolute heaven… with story telling vocals Young Man is known for, glorious guitars and drums that will force you to dance, it’s impossible not to get lost in the track. The song reminds me of some of my favorite classic rock tracks including beautiful vocal harmonies reminiscent of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. “In Time” must be absolutely breathtaking to see live. The record is so addicting, I found myself starring every song in Spotify and had to stop myself out of pure embarrassment.

The show tonight is bound to be enchanting so make sure you get to North Star Bar at 8PM so you don’t miss any of the incredible bands playing! Tickets are only $10 and you can get them here or at the door tonight!

I’m so high, I think I love you xx: The 1975 “Music For Cars” EP / Win Tickets to their KFN show this Thursday!!!!

26 Mar

Cher Dunn 1975 6

You don’t need to be high to know you love The 1975. Their most recent EP Music For Cars, is breathtaking… if SoundCloud had a personal count of how many times I’ve played the EP since I first heard it, the number would be embarrassing.

The EP starts out with a slow, enchanting intro called “Anobrain”, taking you on a chill, dreamy journey until the second track wakes you up with the addicting, catchy, and danceable single “Chocolate”. The third track on the EP, “HNSCC” brings you back to that dreamy state you started at with “Anobrain”, making you feel even more part of an experience, like the EP is a soundtrack of a movie you are suddenly in and attached to. Next, the etheral yet upbeat “Head.Cars.Bending.” is a sing-a-long, dance-worthy, track perfect for a live setting. The last track, “Me”, right now is my favorite song by The 1975. Hauntingly beautiful and a bit heartbreaking, “Me” mixes raw, honest, lyrics with absolutely gorgeous instrumentals. I especially hope to see them perform this track live on Thursday at Kung Fu Necktie! Although in my dream world they will play all of their EPs start to finish live…

The 1975 will be in Philly this Thursday playing a show at Kung Fu Necktie with Cruiser. The show starts at 8PM and you can get tickets here or by commenting on this photo to win tickets on my Facebook page!

Listen to the Music For Cars EP in full now and get obsessed!

NYC show NOT to be missed xx: Everything Everything and Swim Deep TONIGHT at Brooklyn Bowl!!!!!!!!

22 Mar

Brooklyn Bowl

Picture-Everything-Everything-Boards-Image-Feb-2011

After catching an incredible Disclosure show Tuesday night (dance workout for a year) and a gorgeous show by Dan Croll and Little Green Cars last night, I am heading to NYC tonight for two of my favorite bands Everything Everything and Swim Deep at Brooklyn Bowl! The show starts a little early for someone traveling two hours (me) at 8:30PM but I couldn’t be more excited. Tickets are only $10 and there should be a few left here!

I was lucky enough to catch Swim Deep at Fader Fort while at SXSW, every song I’ve heard by them I love so I was really stoked to see them live. Their songs are super catchy and easy to dance to, especially their track “Honey” which is an absolute favorite of mine. Make sure you get to the show tonight on time so you don’t miss them, you will definitely regret it if you do! I can’t wait to get my dance on to them the second week in a row, a perfect start to the weekend. Check out their music below and some shots I took of their show at Fader Fort last week at SXSW!

I am absolutely buzzing to see Everything Everything live tonight for the first time at Brooklyn Bowl!! I’ve loved Everything Everything for three years now and after begging them via Facebook and Twitter (for just as long) to come to the US, especially Philly, I will gladly take a two hour bus to NYC to see them in a venue I heard is nothing short of awesome (here’s looking at you, Brooklyn Bowl). Everything Everything have such an energizing and addicting sound that makes me want to dance every time I hear it, no matter where I am. Their new Cough Cough EP has been on repeat for me at work and I am so stoked to see the new songs, and my favorite Everything Everything classics, performed live tonight with some of my favorite friends from college. Check out some of my favorite tracks below, and make sure that if you can get to NYC tonight you are at Brooklyn Bowl, 8:30 PM for the Swim Deep + Everything Everything show, get your tickets here!
