Philly show NOT to be missed xx: Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Foxygen at First Unitarian Church!!!!

28 Feb

umo

Dream of all dreams!! Tomorrow night is the night that the brilliant and gorgeous Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Foxygen play their sold out show in Philadelphia at First Unitarian Church.

There are some bands that you just cannot deny. It was love at first listen for me with Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Unknown Mortal Orchestra or UMO, as they are lovingly known by those too lazy to type or speak, have just released one of my favorite albums of this year, a follow up to their debut album cheekily entitled II through their new label Jagjaguwar. A perfect mix of psych rock, fun, and everything you love about your favorite classic vinyl, these three beautiful boys make some glorious music that your parents will probably love just as much as you (in the best way possible). While in the midst of a tour which will most likely sell out completely, Unknown Mortal Orchestra will be laying down their addictive tracks live to a packed house in Philly tomorrow night at First Unitarian Church. I am so stoked to check out their music live along with their support band Foxygen again later in Texas at SXSW. If you have tickets to the Philly show tomorrow I better see you with your dancing shoes on tight, and make sure you get there on time to catch the brilliant Foxygen opening. If you can’t see them in Philly check out the rest of their tour here and make sure you get tickets ASAP before they sell out!!

obsessed xx: 7bit Hero “Come On. Stand Out.”

25 Feb

7bit

Ob. sessed. I am obsessed with Brisbane’s own 7bit Hero. Their new track “Come On. Stand Out.” is an energetic, lighthearted, fun, and absolute party of a song. You can’t help but smile and be happy while listening to it. The music video is just as cute and fun, check it out below and find more music from 7bit Hero here!

7bit Hero are having an EP launch on March 2nd at SLQ in Australia, for more info click here!

Philly show NOT to be missed xx: Marriages and Bosnian Rainbows at First Unitarian Church tonight!!!!!

18 Feb

Marriages1

After a ton of traveling last week (which I will update you on later) I am so stoked to be back in Philly to see two of my favorite bands tonight at First Unitarian Church. Marriages released their new album Kitsune, and it is one of my favorites right now, I cannot stop listening. It reminds me of my favorite 90s grunge music with a badass chick lead singer, and I am all about girl power in rock. Their album flows together so beautifully, I am always surprised when it ends. Kitsune, has been on heavy rotation in my headphones and I cannot wait to see the songs performed live tonight at First Unitarian Church. Tickets are still on sale and only $15, go get yours now! Doors are at 8pm and the show starts at 8:30 so make sure you get there on time or you will definitely regret missing Marriages. Kitsune is out now through one of my favorite labels Sargent House, so make sure you buy your copy from your local record store!

Bosnian Rainbows
Marriages are opening for the brilliant Bosnian Rainbows ft. Omar Rodriguez (Mars Volta / At The Drive-In). Also finding home at Sargent House Records, and featuring some also stellar female vocals, Bosnian Rainbows is another band I can’t get enough of. Their new single, “Turtle Neck” makes you: 1. rethink actually wanting a turtle neck, 2. Empathizing for the immense loss of her turtle neck, 3. Someone buy this girl a new turtle neck! All jokes aside, the song is beautiful and chilling, with a sick breakdown in the middle (shit gets real) with punching drums, and insanely powerful guitars that can only come from the chemistry of playing live together. The turtle neck has never felt this emotionally compelling before. Jefferson Airplane-reminiscent vocals come in, until you are brought brought back with a gentle relaxing outro similar to the intro that originally captivates you at the start of the song. “Turtle Neck” is the first single off their upcoming debut album due out this Spring! It is going to be awesome to hear some more new tracks from Bosnian Rainbows live tonight!

I can’t wait to see two incredible bands play the same venue tonight, it is going to get really hot in that church basement! Make sure you get to First Unitarian on time to see Marriages at 8:30 and enjoy a night of getting sweaty and dancing to some brilliant rock and roll.

Don’t Mind if I do! Album Reviews: Darwin Deez “Songs For Imaginative People” out February 12th!!

7 Feb

Darwin Deez

Everyone rejoice!! Our favorite curly-haired dreamboat, Darwin Deez, is back with a new album called Songs For Imaginative People, and because he is a saint, he is letting us stream the entire new album for free right now!

The album wastes no time opening with a weird yet magical track called “(800) Human” featuring the signature guitar sound, vocal harmonies and incredible lyrics we’ve grown to know, love and expect from Darwin Deez. With a surprising electronic finish that sounds like your computer is having a heart attack, which it probably is because it is nearly excited as you about listening to the new album.

The next track, “You Can’t Be My Girl” is a sassy and hilarious track in which Darwin Deez tells you a million reasons why he can’t stand you but wants to date you anyway, with lyrics like “I think I love…you are horrible”, “You’re so wrong, but somehow you win”, and my personal favorite: “You’re sweet, but you’re messed up…your best friend is a red cup”…heaaaard that. The lyrics soar over a background of uplifting guitars and drums, and with electronic dance breaks throughout. I can tell already that this new album is going to bring a new wave of dancing to their live shows. This, is another reason why I absolutely adore Darwin Deez.

Track 3 “Moonlit” reminds me of everything I love about 80s dance tracks, reminiscent of Janet Jackson and Peter Gabriel with a whole lot of dance. As you are dancing to the track you realize that Darwin is talking about falling out of love with his girlfriend, and he should just basically date me instead already . . . Or at least I hope that’s what he means.

“No Love” is a sultry, sweet track with brilliant guitars and keys, while Darwin Deez tells the story of wanting to be friends with a lost love as he tells us, “The way I feel might kill me if I let it and I just might”. No Darwin don’t!! Who else will we swoon over as you repeat “even healthy hearts have holes” at the end til a glorious fade out commences?

“Good to Lose” is another hilariously cheeky song with an uplifting dance base and lyrics you can’t help but laugh at such as: “I’ve got a hot date with a lawn gnome, I am gonna shop at home for carpet foam”, and other lyrics that make you slightly wish you lost your day job, “Because I am free to be asleep til 3 and allow my laundry to pile up on me”. Most importantly, we get to melt over Deez’s incredible falsetto as it features at the end of the track.

Track 6, called “Alice” is a fun and upbeat song probably talking about his gorgeous Australian long-distance girlfriend, Alice, which we can all be jealous of yet still love because the song is so damn cute and she obviously inspired it.

“Redshift” is a heart-wrenching but cheeky track where Deez reminds us how nerd-hot he is, as he gets all scientific with his lyrics to win his girlfriend back. “What did I do? The universe is mostly empty space without you.” Okay, we forgive you. What was that big bang you were talking about in the song?

“Free (The Editorial Me)” might sound familiar as it was the fast, electric, first taste of the new album Darwin Deez let us set our ears on. The song absolutely rocks and I cannot wait to hear it live in the mix of old and new tracks. “All In The Wrist” and “Chelsea’s Hotel” offer a softer, sweeter, yet still danceable end to the album. As you would expect from Darwin Deez his sophomore album is extremely danceable, smart, funny, yet rocking soundtrack of love, loss, heartache, and hope…and I cannot wait to buy it on vinyl

The worst thing about the album is we have to wait 5 more days for it to come out through Lucky Number music on February 12th. Until then, thank our lucky stars for Soundcloud and a handy “repeat” button!

Darwin Deez will be taking his super fun band on tour of the US, stopping in Philadelphia, on…when else? My birthday April 4th at First Unitarian Church. He will also be making another stop at my favorite festival SXSW, which I will be attending. Make sure you see him live in a city near you, and don’t forget your dancing shoes!

Philly show NOT to be missed xx: Jessie Ware at Union Transfer tomorrow!!!!!

17 Jan

Jessie Ware

Gorgeous British songstress and overall goddess Jessie Ware is making her Philly debut tomorrow at Union Transfer!!!!

It has been almost a year since I first heard and fell in love with Jessie Ware’s music. I’ve been following her music since I first heard her single “Running” and her work with SBTRKT. I have never been blessed enough to see her live (besides the number youtube clips I’ve found…which obviously don’t count). So hearing Jessie Ware in one of my favorite venues is going to be magical… and I can’t believe it’s happening tomorrow!

The show starts at 8:30PM at Union Transfer with Rochelle Jordan as support and you can still buy tickets for only $15 here!

Jessie Ware’s brilliant EP If You’re Never Gonna Move is out now and her debut album Devotion will release in the US on April 2nd! Check out some of my favorite tracks below, and make sure you get to Union Transfer tomorrow night to see her live! Don’t live in Philly? Check out her other tour dates here.

obsessed xx: Theme Park “Tonight”

14 Jan

Theme Park

I’ve been loving every song I’ve heard so far from Theme Park, but this new track “Tonight” is next level. I have to say, I was not surprised to hear that the dreamy, upbeat, catchy, and brilliant new track was produced by one of my favorite hip-shaking frontmen (and pretend future husbands) Ed Macfarlane of Friendly Fires. The track is perfect for getting you through a long day’s work, getting ready to go out, and even for the dance floor, to shake off the bad weather/bad day blues.

Theme Park’s debut album is available for pre-order now, in signed CD or LP (LP! LP! LP!), so make sure you order your copy ASAP to get it the second it comes out. I have a feeling this might be one of my favorite albums from this year. Yes, it’s only January, and yes, I am still making that call. Like their name, this band is too exciting and fun not to love.

Theme Park are about to go on a headlining tour of the UK in March so make sure you get your tickets (by clicking the photo below) to see them live!!

Philly show NOT to be missed: French Horn Rebellion and Of Montreal TONIGHT!!!! At the Trocadero!

13 Dec

French+Horn+Rebellion+HF_French_Horn_Rebellion_RAW_4

YAYAYAYAYYAY!!!!! The dream team known as French Horn Rebellion are coming to Philly tonight to show you a good time before Of Montreal take the stage at the Trocadero.

I saw French Horn Rebellion at a show straight up party in NYC during CMJ and they absolutely rule. It’s my dream to have a roller disco party for my 25th birthday next year and I need them to play it. Wouldn’t mind Nile Rodgers either…what? A girl can dream!

French Horn Rebellion are two too good to be true brothers from Brooklyn, that call themselves “Band Geeks Gone Wild”… doesn’t get much hotter than that! Their album The Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion is out now and you can order it here. Their new EP Poster Girl debuted this year and has me super stoked for a new album from the band. French Horn Rebellion are incredible live so make you get to the Trocadero on time (7:45 sharp!) doors open at 7PM. You can get tickets here! This is definitely a show you don’t want to miss.
