obsessed xx: The 1975 cover Chris Malinchak’s “So Good To Me” / US tour with The Neighbourhood!!!!

THE-1975

By now, I am pretty sure you all know that this is how I feel about The 1975:

how I feel about the 1975

Like a million other hearts around the globe, my heart exploded when I heard The 1975 play an absolutely breathtaking cover of “So Good To Me” by Chris Malinchak, one of my favorite songs ever, for BBCR1′s Live Lounge Late last night. Although I’ve seen The 1975 live twice since March (spoiled, I know) I am on the edge of my seat waiting for them to release their new album (out May 20th UK) and come back to America to serenade me…I mean us.

Cher Dunn 1975

After their last show in Philadelphia at Kung Fu Necktie I asked them when they are coming back. They reassured me that they would be returning to play Johnny Brenda’s with none other than fellow band-of-dreamboats The Neighbourhood, whose debut album I Love You is out now on Columbia! Lo and behold, I woke up to a Songkick notification today that this show will be happening at Johnny Brenda’s on Tuesday June 25th! Tickets are only $12 (what!?) so get one for you and all your friends when they go on sale this Friday at 12PM EDT here!!!

lovelovelove xx: The 1975 at KFN recap / Free show tonight in NYC!!

29 Mar

Cher Dunn 1975 72

Last night was one of the most fun nights of my life. I go to a lot of shows, but this one in particular was special. Bringing 8 of my favorite people and meeting 5 more at the venue, I walked in to a nearly sold out Kung Fu Necktie last night just in time to catch Cruiser open for The 1975. I’ve never seen so many people at KFN for a show, a bit overwhelming at first, I was really fucking excited that one of my favorite bands right now were about to play in front of so many fans in my city. Once Cruiser ended we made our (tricky) moves to find our path straight to the front bit of space between the band and the crowd that awkwardly always seems to be there since people are scared to stand in front of the stage. My friends moved right in ready to dance and that we did, nonstop, for the entire time 1975 was on stage. Playing mostly new songs off their upcoming album, ever new track was a beautiful suprise, getting me so stoked for the new album it kills me I have to wait another day…for them to go back to London to finish recording it (fair). Although I was in my groove I did take a look around and couldn’t help but smile at all the people in the crowd, smiling, dancing, taking pictures like crazy. I am pretty sure everyone there had an incredible time, even the super drunk dude next to me that was falling asleep standing up, as I took liberty to shake him a bit and make him dance. The show ended after a decent time but way too soon for the audience. As they announced their last song sighs of crushed hearts poured out from the crowd, but luckily, they promised they would be back later this summer to play at Johnny Brenda’s on their tour supporting the brilliant band The Neighbourhood. For me, my friends, and all the fans at that show I think it’s safe to say that day can’t come soon enough, and same goes for their debut record.

Tonight The 1975 are playing a free show in New York City at Santos Party House!! For all you lucky kids in NYC this is definitely something you should be doing to start off your night tonight! They go on at 8:30 sharp so make sure you get there ASAP to make sure you get in before the venue is at capacity!

obsessed xx: The 1975 “Sex” EP / Win tickets for their show at KFN tomorrow night!!

27 Mar

The 1975 4

During SXSW I took my best friend to see The 1975. We both had bands we wanted to see, some which played at the same time, but I knew she would love them and made sure this was one show she didn’t miss. She saw them as they set up, heard the lead singer, Matty, announce that they were about to play a song called “Sex” and immediately said to me, “The most beautiful boys in the world…of course they have a song called ‘Sex’!”. Funny, but true, The 1975′s Sex EP is just as hot as is sounds.

More focused on an ethereal sound than their other EPs the first track “Intro/Set 3″ draws you into the EP and the second track “Undo” continues that state of absolute bliss. The third and title track “Sex” hits you with upbeat rock and cheeky lyrics:

Sex Lyrics mylifeinsound

Mirroring the last track of their Music For Cars EP and one of my favorite songs “Me”, the last track of the Sex EP “You” really ties the EP together, almost as if it borrows something you love from each track. With an epic build and layered chorus at the end that casually fades to silence you can’t press replay fast enough. Hearing a mixture of all their EPs live is going to be awesome tomorrow, and I can’t wait to bring all my friends from home to witness it. Listen to the Sex EP below and listen to it live person tomorrow at KFN!

The 1975 will be in Philly this Thursday playing a show at Kung Fu Necktie with Cruiser. The show starts at 8PM and you can get tickets here or by commenting on this photo to win tickets on my Facebook page!

I’m so high, I think I love you xx: The 1975 “Music For Cars” EP / Win Tickets to their KFN show this Thursday!!!!

Cher Dunn 1975 6

You don’t need to be high to know you love The 1975. Their most recent EP Music For Cars, is breathtaking… if SoundCloud had a personal count of how many times I’ve played the EP since I first heard it, the number would be embarrassing.

The EP starts out with a slow, enchanting intro called “Anobrain”, taking you on a chill, dreamy journey until the second track wakes you up with the addicting, catchy, and danceable single “Chocolate”. The third track on the EP, “HNSCC” brings you back to that dreamy state you started at with “Anobrain”, making you feel even more part of an experience, like the EP is a soundtrack of a movie you are suddenly in and attached to. Next, the etheral yet upbeat “Head.Cars.Bending.” is a sing-a-long, dance-worthy, track perfect for a live setting. The last track, “Me”, right now is my favorite song by The 1975. Hauntingly beautiful and a bit heartbreaking, “Me” mixes raw, honest, lyrics with absolutely gorgeous instrumentals. I especially hope to see them perform this track live on Thursday at Kung Fu Necktie! Although in my dream world they will play all of their EPs start to finish live…

4 DAYS OF THE 1975 xx: DAY 1 Win tickets to see The 1975 at KFN this Thursday in Philly!!!!

25 Mar

Cher Dunn 1975

One of my top favorite bands, The 1975 are touring the US after crushing it at SXSW, and they are making a stop in Philly this Thursday at Kung Fu Necktie!! The Manchester boys have released some of the most gorgeous, breathtaking EPs including Music For Cars, Sex, and Face Down which leave you spending way to much time pressing play on SoundCloud, praying for a debut album you could easily just put on repeat. The show Thursday night is over half way sold out, so get your tickets here or win them through mylifeinsound!! The show is $10 and starts at 8PM, make sure you get there on time so you don’t miss Cruiser, a dreamy band from Philly who are opening for The 1975 and will get the dance party started.

I was able to catch The 1975 live at SXSW and I have to say, no bias they were one of my top favorite shows I saw at the festival, including Rudimental and NZCA/Lines. The sound at the venue was fucked up and their keyboard wasn’t working but without flinching The 1975 brought so much energy and power to the sunny rooftop stage it didn’t even matter. It’s hard not to pass out watching some of the most beautiful boys making such addicting, glorious music. So make sure you bring your friends, help each other keep calm and dance on at The 1975 show this Thursday at Kung Fu Necktie!

To win tickets to The 1975 this Thursday at KFN “like” my page and The 1975 on Facebook, and comment on the photo on my Facebook page saying you want to win! I have two pairs of tickets to give away so make sure your friends enter too!

Philly show NOT to be missed xx: DZ Deathrays and Blood Red Shoes at Kung Fu Necktie!!!

20 Sep

They day is finally here!! I’ve been waiting for this show since I last saw DZ Deathrays at Johnny Brenda’s in June and they hinted that they were playing Philly again this month. Even more fitting they are touring with another band I love, Blood Red Shoes.

DZ Deathrays released their debut album Bloodstreams in May and it’s full of fast, hard, and gritty rock and roll. Listening to the record, it is stunning that two people can make so much noise… so seeing them live is an even better! When I saw DZ Deathrays in June, I was lucky enough to chat with the brilliant lead singer and guitarist Shane Parsons about writing, touring, music history in Australia, being homeless, and crazy drunken times. Tonight, I am excited to repeat that with a video camera,so you can have in on it too!

If you are in (around/near/can get on a bus or plane right now to) Philly make sure you make the show tonight at Kung Fu Necktie at 8pm, tickets are $12 and you can get them here or at the door. If you don’t have it already make sure you buy their incredible album Bloodstreams here or at your local record store!

Philly shows NOT to be missed xx: Beat Connection, Teen Daze, and White Arrows at Kung Fu Necktie // Tanlines at Making Time TONIGHT!!!

3 Jul

God Bless America!!! Beat Connection is in Philly tonight at Kung Fu Necktie, and I couldn’t be more excited to see/hear them perform songs off their gorgeous follow up to Surf Noir called The Palace Garden out now! Beat Connection are a dreamy bunch of boys that make beautiful, fun, dance music perfect for your summer and life soundtrack. Started by Jordan Koplowitz and Reed Juenger in 2008, the boys brought in more members to really see this project through. When they played Philly at First Unitarian Church, they had added drummer Jarred Katz who brought an incredible energy and sound to the live show. At SXSW this March, I got to see them with their final full band which includes vocalist/guitarist Tom Eddy. I had the incredible opportunity of interview these hilarious and rad dudes, and can’t wait to be reunited with them tonight at Kung Fu Necktie. The show starts at 9pm tonight and you can buy tickets for only $10 here.

Make sure you get there right at 9PM to see the stellar opening bands White Arrows and Teen Daze!

Vancouver electronic dream TeenDaze has a brilliant debut album All Of Us, Together and it’s out now so make sure you get your copy if you don’t have it already.

Los Angeles foxes White Arrows also have an epic debut album out now for your absolute listening pleasure. Dry Land Is Not A Myth dropped on June 19th through Votiv. Another incredible album to dance the night away to, including two of my favorite tracks “Get Gone” and “Roll Forever”.

Needless to say, tonight is going to be an absolutely epic and dreamy dance party at KFN due to all parties involved. I CAN’T WAIT.

After the show I am heading over to Bamboo Bar to catch TANLINES at Making Time’s You’re Welcome America RAD-BQ!!!! That’s right!! To ring in the 4th of July Tanlines are playing tonight in Philly at Bamboo Bar at 11pm. I already told you how obsessed I am with Tanlines new record Mixed Emotions which is out now, and now is our chance to see those songs performed live and dance away into the early morning hours of everyone’s (at least America’s and my) favorite holiday! You can get advance tickets here for $10 or get your tickets at the door for $15! Check out the Facebook event for more info on the RAD-BQ and specials, and I will see you on the dance floor tonight!!
