obsessed xx: DIIV “How Long Have You Known?”

29 Aug

You might not believe it, or maybe your heart can’t take it, but yet another dreamy band from New York has surfaced and they are called DIIV, pronounced “dive” not “div”.

DIIV’s debut album Oshin is out now through Captured Tracks and if the rest of the record is anywhere near as glorious and heart-melting as this track, “How Long Have You Known?”, I can’t wait to get my hands on it!! Being that they are from NY, I am ashamed that I haven’t made it to any of their shows yet, but lucky for me they are on tour and playing in Philadelphia with Wild Nothing and Blonds on Monday, September 24th at Union Transfer!! DIIV are playing Germany, Denmark and Sweden this week alone, so go see them live if they are playing near you. In September, they are coming back to the US to play some shows in the US and Canada so make sure you check out the dates and track them on Songkick (if you are like me and treat your Songkick as your planner). I can’t wait to get this record, hear more from the band, and see them live!! aaaaaand you can bet I will be playing “How Long Have You Known?” on repeat all day today.

Love you forever,

xx Cheryl

The tour starts in Brooklyn on July 31st at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, includes-of course-the sold out Lollapalooza Festival, and ends on August 11th in Montreal, Quebec at La Sala Rossa. If that wasn’t enough good news, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs’ long awaited (the anticipation is killing me!!!) debut record Trouble is finally out this Tuesday June 12! Sorry for the lack of punctuation not ending in an exclamation mark but I am excited for us, North America. I have loved everything I’ve ever heard from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and I know the record is going to be nothing short of incredible. Seeing him in NY last month has me pining to see him live again, so the news of his return to NY is such a relief. I can’t wait to get my dance work-out for the year with him again in NY when he comes back. Hopefully, this time, if he doesn’t tour with his dino-dancers from the UK tour, he will take me on as his American dino-dancer for the tour. Here’s to dreaming!

31 May

M83 is back with another epic music video featuring creepy-awesome superhuman kids. This time it’s for my favorite track off of their new record out now Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, called “Reunion”. The video also features a subtle tribute to MCA, the brilliant Adam Yauch from the Beastie Boys who recently passed away. The tribute occurs 47 seconds into the video (they are going to Adam Yauch Ave). M83 released a new EP for the single, by the same name Reunion. The Reunion EP is out now with remixes by Mylo, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Sei A, The Naked And Famous, Polly Scattergood, and White Sea. M83 also announced they will be performing at Austin City Limits Music Festival and Pitchfork Music Festival Paris. They will tour North America again starting in Philly (woo!!!) at the Electric Factory August 1st. After their killer show at Union Transfer, I can’t wait for dance party round 2 in August!

Philly show NOT to be missed xx: Crystal Fighters at Union Transfer tomorrow!!!!!

20 May

I am so stoked for Monday night at Union Transfer!!! I will be reunited with one of my favorite dance bands from Spain, Crystal Fighters, after seeing their epic Latitude 30 show at SXSW in March. Starting their North American tour in Philadelphia, Crystal Fighters will be embarking on a 14 date tour ending in San Diego on June 6th. Crystal Fighters are one of the most interesting bands I’ve seen live, they make epic dance music using their voices, Basque instruments, and synthesizers and watching them perform live is an experience: a perfect exchange of energy between the fans and the band. Their show at SXSW turned so quickly into a crazy fun, sweaty, sing-a-long dance party and I expect nothing less for their show at Union Transfer Monday. Crystal Fighters debut album Star Of Love is out now with an extra US-only track, a very dreamy “Earth Island”. Star of Love definitely a part heavy part of my summertime soundtrack. Some of my favorite tracks from the album include “Follow” which was the first song I heard from them last year, “Xtatic Truth”, steamy sing-along “Champion Sound”, drum heavy “I Do This Everyday”, the beautifully choral “At Home”, and the epic closing track “With You”. It’s hard to pick one favorite from an album that is so so electric, fun, and danceable. It’s the perfect album to put on when you are getting ready to go out, on your way out, while you’re out… as long as you like to dance. Even if you don’t like to dance, when listening to Crystal Fighters, it’s hard not to! The show is tomorrow night at Union Transfer tickets are only $12, and I hope to see you there! Usually, you can find me dancing like crazy with a camera somewhere in the front, so come say hi! If you don’t live in Philly, check out their tour dates below. Make sure to pick up your copy of Star of Love if you don’t have it already from your favorite local record store or here.

lovelovelove: Lucy Rose “Red Face”

10 Jan

You might recognize the lovely voice of Lucy Rose from the most recent and absolutely perfect record by Bombay Bicycle Club A Different Kind Of Fix. When not offering her gorgeous harmonies to the boys from BBC, Lucy Rose is creating her own music, and her new single “Red Face” is part of her upcoming record she is working on. I absolutely cannot wait to hear more. Luckily, I get to see her open for Bombay Bicycle Club on their North American Tour! Listen to “Red Face” below and if you like it make sure to purchase it here. Make sure you see Bombay Bicycle Club and Lucy Rose live at any and every chance you get!
