Currently Spinning: Aziya ‘We Speak of Tides’ EP

Aziya‘s new EP ‘We Speak of Tides‘ is out now and we can’t stop listening!

Aziya‘s new EP We Speak of Tides is out now and I couldn’t feel more blessed and excited!!

London-based Aziya became one of my favorite new artists when I found her by some miracle on Instagram. I found a video of her playing a cover, then found the treasure trove that is her profile- full of her covers and some original music she was writing. I was prepped and ready for all new music from Aziya, and we just got it in the form of We Speak of Tides, her new EP out now!!

We Speak of Tides kicks off with two of my favorite songs Aziya has released ‘Blood’ and ‘Slip!’, so once you start listening to the EP you’re already in for a win. The rest of the EP consisting of newer and previously unreleased tracks, ‘Marathon’, ‘Heaven For Me’, and ‘Over Again’ are a joy for your ears to discover. ‘Marathon’ is an epic jam that will get you through that to last mile on the track and in life. Check out the new video for ‘Marathon’ now:

‘Marathon’ was:

Written by Aziya + Daniel Hylton-Nuamah

Produced by Aziya + HYLNU

Video Directed by Aziya + Jack Durman

‘Marathon’ Lyrics:

There’s a river,
I tried to pull myself through.
There’s a diner,
That’s where you told me to meet.
You must’ve been hungry,
You got there pretty early.
Gotta pick myself up and keep running.
Gotta pick myself up and keep running.
Oughta pick myself up and keep running.
Gotta pick myself up and keep running, keep running.
Tryna swim in Promises that you feared.
You said “Keep the week free
Well it’s been more than one year I’m not waiting,
I’m just saying.
Rather pick myself up, and keep running.
Gotta pick myself up,
And keep running.
Oughta pick myself up,
And keep running.
Gotta pick myself up,
And keep running,
Keep running.
Ayyy Yeah!
Ayyy Yeah
Ayyy Yeah!
What’s the use in
Tryna pretend I
Ought pick myself up,
And keep running.
Gotta pick myself up,
And keep running,
Keep running.
Rather pick myself up and keep running.
Gotta pick myself up And keep running.
Oughta pick myself up
And keep running
Gotta pick myself up
And keep running
Keep running.
Ayyy Yeah!
Ayyy Yeah
Ayyy Yeah!

Watch the video for the first track off We Speak of Tides ‘Blood’ above! Blood was:

Written by Aziya
Produced by Aziya + Josef Page
‘Blood’ Video Directed by Thomas James

Blood Lyrics:

You’re tryna live a life where
Those closest to you.
Are taken for granted,
You have nothing to lose.
Maybe I can’t see,
The pressure deep inside exists.
No sense of integrity,
Rather leave me cold in the dark.
You’re my blood!
It’s a word that you don’t understand,
You’re my blood!
Write it off
Cause you know that you can.
You know I’m really trying,
It’s like you just forget.
Cant reach out your hand for
Anything that you won’t regret.
You’re my blood!
It’s a word that you don’t understand,
You’re my blood!
Write it off
Cause you know that you can.
Don’t be so cynical!
Trust me, It’s not difficult!
Don’t be so cynical!
Trust me, You’re my blood!
It’s a word that you don’t understand.
You’re my blood!
Write it off
Cause you know that you can.
I pray that one day
You’ll realise.
Escape from the grip of the night.
Instead you’ll just keep it a secret,
No shame If the bloods out of sight

Track 2 on We Speak of Tides is “Slip!”, watch the video above! This is one of my absolute favorite songs by Aziya, I welcome this song getting stuck in my head and it does often!

“Slip!” was:

Written by Aziya + Daniel Hylton-Nuamah
Produced by Aziya + Daniel Hylton-Nuamah + Josef Page
“Slip!” Video Directed by Libby Burke Wilde
Thanks to Aziya’s band (Cam, Ian & Sam)

“Slip!” Lyrics:
How can I just up and leave?
You’re forcing feelings on me.
I perk my lips I can’t breathe.
You forced those feelings on me.
I’ll harbour the taste of
Regret and restraint.
Can’t help the feeling
Of running away.
You made me slip!
You’re words are just like water
When I’m running out.
You made me slip!
Never would have thought I wouldn’t run out.
I wish time moved slowly
So my mind could see what’s in front of me.
Once you glance in
My direction, I’ll be the level you’ll just try complete.
I don’t get insecure
Not prone to jealousy.
But now you got me
Waiting on your broken fallacies.
10 minutes of your company
You’ll take a part of me.
I’m slipping on your broken words
I really need to leave!
You made me slip!
Your words are just like water
When I’m running out.
You made me slip!
Never would have thought I wouldn’t run out.
Try and rule me No I don’t want it.
But I let you get to my head.
Slay the demons
That try to haunt
But you make the damsel in me Distressed.
You made me slip!
Never would have thought I wouldn’t run out.

Aziya also released a gorgeous, stripped version of ‘Heaven For Me’ the fourth track on the EP, watch it above!

The music video for the track is so stunning, watch it now:

‘Heaven for Me’ was:

Written by Aziya + Iain Mahanty
Produced by Aziya + Ian Mahanty + Josef Page
Video Directed by Thomas James

‘Heaven for Me’ Lyrics:
It could be a Nirvana,
Never see him again.
I could be like Kurt,
Better off without a friend.
I’m sensing the pressure,
He’s coming for me.
Won’t take no for an answer,
Praying God will take the lead.
He says come to me,
It’s been so long since we embraced.
You’re heaven for me,
A place of safety from this mess I’ve made.
As he wrapped his arms round me,
I knew things could never be the same.
My mind wants to keep you inside,
Cause it’s
Better when you’re pushed outta sight.
Had me stuck in the water tried to call you but
The words slip underneath.
How can I dream without the terrors you bring about?
“My lover is tender”,
That’s what he wants me to say.
But when the dusk turns to night,
He lights a different kind of flame.
He says come to me,
It’s been so long since we embraced.
You’re heaven for me,
A place of safety from this mess I’ve made.
As he wrapped his arms round me,
I knew things could never be the same.
My mind wants to keep you inside,
Cause it’s
Better when you’re pushed outta sight.
Had me stuck in the water tried to call you but
The words slip underneath.
How can I dream without the terrors you bring about?
