Happy Wednesday! One of the greatest bands of all time, Little Dragon, have just released their first piece of new music since their stunning 2014 release Nabuma Rubberband. The single called “High” is a silky, baby-making tune perfect for it’s Valentine’s Day release. Watch the new video for the track now here:

“High” is available for stream/purchase now on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify, Soundcloud, and Apple Music!

Little Dragon also announced they will be playing their first North American tour in two years. The shows kick off with Coachella Festival then continue with Glass Animals and Goldlink playing select shows along the tour! What an epic lineup either way. There are no current Philly dates on this tour but let’s all pray they add one. Either way, I’ll be checking them out at this year’s Bestival festival and you should too! Tickets for most dates on the tour go on sale this Friday and you get yours here.

morning jam: POND “Sweep Me Off My Feet”

28 Jan
screen-shot-2017-01-27-at-4-36-38-pm

Listen to the brilliant new track and equally epic new music video from Aussie megababes POND “Sweep Me Off My Feet”. On a related note- POND we are right here to sweep you off your feet come back to Philly now please!

I volunteer as tribute! I’ll forever have a crush on POND. Their music makes me so happy, every. single. time. Speaking of single, their new single “Sweep Me Off My Feet” is no exception. This spacey, euphoric jam is the first single off the bands’ upcoming album The Weather due out May 5th via Marathon Artists. The single was produced by the band and previous bandmate Kevin Parker (Tame Impala). Watch the incredible music video below and pre-order your album here!

POND are playing Coachella this April as well as London Calling Festival in May and Primavera Festival in June. Here’s hoping for a bigger tour announcement soon!

Coachella Lineup revealed: Radiohead, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, and a ton of other bands you love

4 Jan

coachella-lineup

It’s that time of year, where all you do is look forward to every upcoming festival 2017 will grace us. Coachella always seems to be the first one to brag about their lineups getting you all excited for April when we’re barely into January, but this year created a next-level pining inside me I can’t even believe is real…they had me at Radiohead. Honestly, we could have stopped there. Radiohead could have played all three days and I would have been stoked but no, instead we have Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar also headlining, along with a ton of  amazing bands on the lineup to try to run around and see. Festival passes go on sale today, January 4th at 11AM PST here.

I get that a lot of bands play festivals but nothing annoys me more than the hierarchy of font sizes these posters use. You need a magnifying glass to see some truly epic artists on this list so here are some of my favorites:

thundercat_wh.jpg

THUNDERCAT: How much do I love this man? Let me count the ways. For one, Thundercat put on one of the best live shows I’ve ever been to in my life and I’ve been to an insane amount of shows. Thundercat is one of the best musicians of our time on record and on stage and seeing him build his music live is something every music loving soul should experience. He is not one to be missed at this festival.

king-gizz

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard: Seeing this Australian seven-piece band live is not an event it’s an experience. Like a symphony of psych rock set to mesmerizing visuals you will be floating in the clouds watching this band whether you dropped or not.

shura-2

Shura has been one of my favorite queens since I saw her live and interviewed her for Galore and at SXSW. Shura’s shows are an upbeat dance party soundtrack-worth of an 80s John Hughes film. Things you’ll need to bring to her show: your dancing shoes and someone to make out with… well technically you can meet that person there.

rs-survive-14b87106-6469-42bd-8492-dc6914a3a5f5

S U R V I V E. The brilliant band that brought you the Stranger Things soundtrack and solidified your addiction to a television show will be creeping things up in Palm Springs with heavy bass lines and synthesizers and if we’re lucky a sea of lasers and fog to turn your Coachella upside-down (in a good way).

jagwar

Jagwar Ma has been one of my favorite bands for years, I could see them play the same show every day for three years and would still be just as thrilled as the first time I saw them live. Their music is a beautiful blend of pysch, rock and dance which are three of my favorite things. Their shows always give you a dance workout that will make you cancel you gym membership and buy every album they’ve released (here and here).

pond

Aussie psych dream team POND are a mesmerizing, trippy AF show that will have your body moving and your mind spinning. While you’re getting lost in their instrumentals and vocal harmonies, you’ll find one of your favorite new bands to follow into the space-time continuum they open up in your mind when you’re watching them live.

honne-aug-2015-pic

Bring your crush/love/that megababe you met at the Shura show with you for the Coachella set of sheer baby-making music created and performed by HONNE. Let the UK duo set the mood with their mixture of smooth vocals, R&B and dance that will get your heart beating and body moving  as that California sandstorm sweeps around you.

Whether you’re going to Coachella as a massive music fan on a mission or to get a picture of your outfit taken go see these artists and get your musical mind blown and expanded by  the incredible artists above.

late night listen xx: Tame Impala “‘Cause I’m a Man”

5 Apr

Kevin Parker by Matt Sav

Happy Holidays everyone! Yesterday was my birthday and Tame Impala just released their new track, “‘Cause I’m A Man”. Coincidence? I think not. This band knows I am forever their girl and continues to shower me with audio gifts worth more than gold.

“‘Cause I’m A Man” is dropping Tuesday because the band and Interscope must know we can’t wait more than 48 hours to get this on repeat in our headphones. Besides the most incredible lyrics, this song is chill as f-. Seriously… like a cheeky lullaby sung to you by the most beautiful boy in the world. Oh wait, it is.

“‘Cause I’m a man”, is the second single from Tame Impala’s upcoming third album Currents. Kevin Parker wrote songs for the album in planes, cars, hotels and homes. “‘Cause I’m A Man” and previously released “Let It Happen” were written, performed, recorded, produced and mixed by Parker in Fremantle, Western Australia. Listen to both below now:

late night listen xx: Lana Del Rey “West Coast” + new music video!!

17 Apr

Lana-Del-Rey

OB.SESSED. When Lana Del Rey brought out her new track “West Coast”- quite appropriately at Coachella- no one had any idea what hit them. The new track is dark, sensual and packs a lot of attitude. The sound is innovative and progressive yet is still signature Lana Del Rey. If this is what we can expect from the new album, I absolutely can not wait any longer to hear more. A music video is to follow the audio teaser below and the track is available now for pre-order via iTunes here! Considering my replaying this song is probably responsible for the majority of it’s 5 million hits on YouTube, I think it’s time to pre-order…

** UPDATE: Check out the new music video now:

dancedancedance xx: Booka Shade

24 Apr

Image

I was lucky enough to dance to a legend this past week.  Amidst the many electro acts at Coachella, there is always one every year that I deem the “secret, super-Euro set”, which brings a surprise sound that Coachella’s other electro acts lack, and, frankly, America in general.  It’s the hour of the weekend that I always wish I could relive.  Or eat like a Popsicle.

2013 belongs to Booka Shade, the ultra percussive, a little oddball, and sonically experimental duo hailing from Berlin – the electro-party capital of the world.

You like to party?

In 2002, five German DJs/clubbing aficionados began Get Physical Music, a record label aimed at bringing the explosive underground culture of Berlin’s party scene to the ears it deserved.  The scene radiated from the deep darkness of industrial spaces – parties began in abandoned warehouses left vacant after the fall of the Berlin wall – yet it also served as a statement of newly found political and social freedom, togetherness, and what dance music is really all about – love.

Booka Shade, comprised of Arno Kammermeier and Walter Merziger, the duo M.A.N.D.Y., and DJ T built Get Physical Music on the belief that “the groove is the most important element” – a god damn good mission statement for a house music label.

With eclectic elements upon a distinct Berlin sound, the intensely rhythmic nature of Booka Shade’s music, their rich use of acoustic instruments in combination with unconventional and textured synths, can be enthusiastically nodded to through headphones anytime, anywhere on their 2006 release, Movements.  Their live show, however, can really make you groove.  With Arno on the drums and Walter on the keyboard and synth, there is such a driving nature to the performance, an electric current caused by the clash of cymbals, carried over the crowd with a gravitating, dropped in loop.

So that was my Saturday night last week.  And – surprise – my past Friday in San Francisco.  Got to love friends and road trips. House music, too.

Berlin or bust,
Steph

PS – Also from Coachella, Berlin, and in my bank of best moments ever lived: Cassy. Deep.
