Firefly Day One!!!!

15 Jun

fly

Firefly is one of the most magical music festivals in the US, and an absolute haven for music lovers in the tri-state area. Next week fans will make the annual pilgrimage to The Woodlands of Dover, Delaware for the festival which runs today through Sunday. The Waster asked me to put together some of the bands I’m most excited to see, so here we GO! Day one:

The Woodlands are as magical as they sound, from lit up trees and hidden pathways to a hammock haven for much needed shade. The festival grounds are something to explore alongside all of the incredible artists playing the many stages throughout the grounds. Don’t get me wrong, you will get a walking workout for sure, and there may be a dust storm or two, so if you can get a cute face mask like that Snapchat tiger filter – bring one. Overall, Firefly is the perfect place to see your favorite bands, discover new ones, and make a ton of friends along the way.

This year’s lineup was curated by you, the music fans! So it’s no surprise that your days will be filled running from stage to stage, and it’s hard for us to just pick out of few bands that you must see…but if you’re overwhelmed and need some help creating your schedule, here are some bands that we can’t wait to see rock Firefly this year.

*repeat repeat

*repeat repeat from East Nashville, TN are taking over The Northeast Hub from 4-5PM today and I cannot wait to catch them live. The groovy, surf rock band will be playing their addictive, catchy tunes from their upcoming album Floral Canyon our out August 25th on Dangerbird Records. Don’t miss their set!

K. Flay

I’m excited to see K.Flay live, this badass rapper/producer has been taking the world by storm with her addictive, angsty, songs. Her raw power and diverse sound found her opening for artists including Snoop Dogg, Passion Pit and Theophilus London. After playing Firefly and several other festivals this summer, K.Flay will be supporting Imagine Dragons on their North American Arena tour which starts in September! We can’t wait to hear tracks off her latest album, Every Where Is Some Where, at Firefly next week! K.Flay will be performing on Thursday at 7:45PM on the Backyard Stage.

Maggie Rogers

You may know Maggie Rogers from melting Pharrell’s (and subsequently the rest of the world’s) heart with her song “Alaska”. Since, Maggie Rogers released several singles off of her debut album, Now That The Light Is Fading, and each stunning, enchanting song released further proved to the world that Maggie Rogers is in a league of her own. Rogers has been busy with sold-out world tours, playing what seems like every festival in existence this summer. Seriously. But her performance at Firefly should be nothing short of phenomenal and we can’t wait to see, and hear, for ourselves. Maggie Rogers performs on the Lawn Stage at 6:45 PM on Thursday.

Glass Animals

I can’t get enough of Glass Animals, they put on one hell of a live show, and on Thursday they are headlining the festival to give it the electrified kickoff it deserves. I’ve seen this band multiple times and I could go on tour with them and watch them perform the same songs every night and still be excited by their show. I especially can’t wait to see/hear them perform tracks off of their epic new album, How To Be A Human Being, mixed with my favorites from their debut Zaba. Don’t miss Glass Animals play the Backyard Stage at 10:45PM on Thursday.

Whoever you choose to go see, have a super fun, safe time at Firefly today!

Bleachers

Jack Antonoff, one of our favorite creative minds in music, is back with new music via Bleachers! His anthemic new single called “Don’t Take The Money” released last week ushered in summer on the East Coast and already feels like the soundtrack of the summer. If this epic new jam is any indication of what the album, entitled Gone Now, is going to be like we want an advanced copy now. Antonoff officially announced the new Bleachers album is due out June 2nd, so here’s to pre-ordering as fast as you can!

“Don’t Take The Money” is out now and you can get your copy here! Bleachers will be touring for most of the summer starting with two sold-out dates in NYC and LA. See tour dates and ticket links below. Although there is no Philly date currently listed (come on Jack!), we can’t wait to see Bleachers at one of our favorite East Coast festivals, Firefly, this year! 18 Jun

vance_Meredith

I can’t wait for this weekend, mainly because it’s going to be jam packed with some of my favorite artists thanks to Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE!

This Sunday, Australian singer-songwriter, Vance Joy, will be taking the stage. He’s playing earlier in the day so make sure you get to The Lawn at 12:30PM sharp!

His addictive single “Riptide” is one that will stay in your head for days and you’ll want it to stay there. If you don’t get the chance to come to Firefly this weekend, make sure you catch him at Lollapalooza and Outside Lands festivals later this summer!

lovelovelove: mylifeinsound moves to NYC (for 2 days) Bombay Bicycle Club tonight, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs tomorrow!!!

30 Jul

Cheryl Dunn does NYC 2012 round 2! After playing a show in NYC last Thursday and a festival in Maine this weekend, my travel life is getting a ton of action all at once. Although I should be am exhausted, it’s like taking shots of Redbull every time I listen to a Bombay Bicycle Club or Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs song today at work. I have this work day to get through then I am off to NYC to see Bombay Bicycle Club live (for the 7th time) tonight at Webster Hall! I can’t wait, they are one of my favorite bands ever (if you couldn’t already tell) and they are so much fun to see live. Tomorrow I will be wreaking havoc in NY as well as posting some beloved memories from Firefly Music Festival. Tomorrow night, I am going to see Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs for the second time in NY at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, or Orlando Higginbottom, is my British dream part I & II. Talk about dance dream man! I cannot wait to get my dance on with him again tomorrow night before he goes to Lollapalooza this weekend.

By some miracle tickets are still available for both shows, so get your tickets here for Bombay Bicycle Club tonight and here to get your dance on with me at Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs tomorrow night!

*fun fact: “Household Goods” is my ringtone and the song I wake up to every morning.
