Firefly Day One!!!!

15 Jun

fly

Firefly is one of the most magical music festivals in the US, and an absolute haven for music lovers in the tri-state area. Next week fans will make the annual pilgrimage to The Woodlands of Dover, Delaware for the festival which runs today through Sunday. The Waster asked me to put together some of the bands I’m most excited to see, so here we GO! Day one:

The Woodlands are as magical as they sound, from lit up trees and hidden pathways to a hammock haven for much needed shade. The festival grounds are something to explore alongside all of the incredible artists playing the many stages throughout the grounds. Don’t get me wrong, you will get a walking workout for sure, and there may be a dust storm or two, so if you can get a cute face mask like that Snapchat tiger filter – bring one. Overall, Firefly is the perfect place to see your favorite bands, discover new ones, and make a ton of friends along the way.

This year’s lineup was curated by you, the music fans! So it’s no surprise that your days will be filled running from stage to stage, and it’s hard for us to just pick out of few bands that you must see…but if you’re overwhelmed and need some help creating your schedule, here are some bands that we can’t wait to see rock Firefly this year.

*repeat repeat from East Nashville, TN are taking over The Northeast Hub from 4-5PM today and I cannot wait to catch them live. The groovy, surf rock band will be playing their addictive, catchy tunes from their upcoming album Floral Canyon our out August 25th on Dangerbird Records. Don’t miss their set!

K. Flay

I’m excited to see K.Flay live, this badass rapper/producer has been taking the world by storm with her addictive, angsty, songs. Her raw power and diverse sound found her opening for artists including Snoop Dogg, Passion Pit and Theophilus London. After playing Firefly and several other festivals this summer, K.Flay will be supporting Imagine Dragons on their North American Arena tour which starts in September! We can’t wait to hear tracks off her latest album, Every Where Is Some Where, at Firefly next week! K.Flay will be performing on Thursday at 7:45PM on the Backyard Stage.

Maggie Rogers

You may know Maggie Rogers from melting Pharrell’s (and subsequently the rest of the world’s) heart with her song “Alaska”. Since, Maggie Rogers released several singles off of her debut album, Now That The Light Is Fading, and each stunning, enchanting song released further proved to the world that Maggie Rogers is in a league of her own. Rogers has been busy with sold-out world tours, playing what seems like every festival in existence this summer. Seriously. But her performance at Firefly should be nothing short of phenomenal and we can’t wait to see, and hear, for ourselves. Maggie Rogers performs on the Lawn Stage at 6:45 PM on Thursday.

Glass Animals

I can’t get enough of Glass Animals, they put on one hell of a live show, and on Thursday they are headlining the festival to give it the electrified kickoff it deserves. I’ve seen this band multiple times and I could go on tour with them and watch them perform the same songs every night and still be excited by their show. I especially can’t wait to see/hear them perform tracks off of their epic new album, How To Be A Human Being, mixed with my favorites from their debut Zaba. Don’t miss Glass Animals play the Backyard Stage at 10:45PM on Thursday.

Whoever you choose to go see, have a super fun, safe time at Firefly today!

Maggie Rogers released her EP Now That The Light Is Fading today!

After a gorgeous television debut performance of “Alaska” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Maggie Rogers dropped her highly anticipated new EP Now That The Light Is Fading today! You can purchase/stream the EP now through multiple venues listed on her website here.

Maggie Rogers is off to a blazing start this year, selling out most of her tour, with announced performances at several festivals around the world including SXSW this March, and now with the release of this gorgeous new EP, we have a new set of songs to discover live. There is something extremely nostalgic and warming about Maggie Rogers’ voice. The storytelling lyrics that weave through each track on this EP connect on a deeper level, as if the EP was made and released by an old friend who truly understands you. One of my favorite tracks off Now That The Light Is Fading is the upbeat and mesmerizing “Better”. “Better” is one of those songs you find yourself dancing to without even releasing it, and like her other tracks, the vocals and lyrics are impossible not to sing along to.

The other song you might not recognize yet from the EP is “Color Song”. The hymn-remiscient minimalist tune features stunning vocal harmonies and nature sounds, like what you would imagine camping with Maggie Rogers would be like. We’ll start the fire and set up camp to hear those vocals all day!

The EP also includes previously released favorites “Alaska”, “On + Off” and “Dog Years”. Listen to each track below and finally get your copy of this gorgeous debut EP via Maggie Roger’s website here.

Maggie Rogers will be heading to Philly to play a sold out show at The Foundry on April 7th! For more tour dates and information, click here.

Maggie Rogers just released a new single and music video “On + Off”! Listen and watch below!

I think it’s pretty clear by now that we are obsessed with anything/everything Maggie Rogers. This queen has been releasing all of our new favorite jams, and luckily this week is no different with the release of her new single “On + Off”.

Following suit with her music videos for “Alaska” and “Dog Years”, the “On + Off” music video is another collaboration with director Zia Anger. Like her other videos, this stunning video features a dance routine you and your friends are going to have to memorize for Maggie Rogers’ upcoming tour…or at least attempt to.

Maggie Rogers’ upcoming tour includes SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX March 13-19, and just like the upcoming release of her debut album, we absolutely cannot wait.

Maggie Rogers’ world tour is almost completely sold out. To see where she is playing in a city near you and to get ticket, click here!

WCW: Our Obsession with Maggie Rogers

4 Jan
maggierogers_main

Maggie Rogers is the first of our WCW series we will continue throughout the year celebrating our favorite women in music. Read more about this brilliant artist and listen to her music below!

You probably found out about the musical songbird/goddess Maggie Rogers by seeing this video which went viral:

During a Masterclass with Pharrell at NYU, Rogers introduced her track and told the class that “It’s good for now, it would probably need a couple more hours of mixing and mastering”. Not soon after the track started playing her song blew the mind of Pharrell and everyone else watching in cyberspace. The song played was her track now named “Alaska” and after listening to the finished track 10,000 more times, I am still neither sick of it or any less moved than I was when I first heard it.

Following the brilliance of “Alaska” Maggie Rogers released equally beautiful “Dog Years” a stunning, storytelling love song with effortless vocals and harmonies we can’t get enough of (or out of our heads). If anyone had a great 2016 it was truly Rogers (and in my opinion so did we for getting to hear her music). With her upcoming tour and more new music on it’s way it seems that 2017 will only get better for us all.

Maggie Rogers announced a massive tour from January through April hitting many cities in the US and Europe including a sold-out show in Philadelphia at the Foundry on April 7th. For a full list of tour dates, tickets and more information visit her website here.

Listen to a new demo Maggie Rogers released below and get your tickets for her upcoming tour now!

On December 31st, Maggie Rogers posted her thoughts on this past year and her hopes and dreams for this year, which I know she will achieve. Read below and follow Maggie on Facebook, Twitter and Soundcloud to keep up with what will be an incredible year for this brilliant artist.
