obsessed xx: Jack Peñate “No One Lied”

31 Jan

I’ll never forget when I heard this song for the first time. I was super busy, so much was going on, a lot of people were talking around me, and then all at once, it seemed like everything stopped and everyone fell silent. My brain and heart just linked and were consumed by the absolute, overwhelming beauty of this song. This song is perfect in every way: lyrically, the way it starts soft and with a siren, the builds and drops, the truthful passion in his voice. Songs like this not only send act as strong reminder of why I love music so much, but also reminds me of why I want to make a better effort to make my own. This is the perfect listen for the end of my day today. The video below for “No One Lied” by Jack Peñate was directed by Dani Castro. The video was shot and recorded live in one take at home on the 19th of January. If you love it as much as I do, you can download it for free here.

Lyrics to “No One Lied”:
I’m so happy, think I could cry
Then the moment is lost to the sky
In the silence something is heard
Brings us back down crashing to earth

Heaven is a place
No one lied
It’s rushing through your veins
Flooding your eyes

She’s so worried the end is in sight
She could stay there for the rest her life
A peculiar pain within her arose
As the perfect frame couldn’t be froze

Heaven is a place
No one lied
It’s rushing through your veins
Flooding your eyes
It’s hidden in your brain
The sweetest surprise

We’ll be gone soon

Heaven is a place
No one lied
It’s rushing through your veins
Flooding your eyes
It’s hidden in your brain
The sweetest surprise
The mystery remains
Until we die

Boston show NOT to be missed xx: Porcelain Raft and Smith Westerns at Paradise Rock TONIGHT!!

29 Jan

This weekend I made a long overdue, last minute trip to visit some dear friends in Boston. It has been such an incredible, fun and relaxing weekend. Tonight I am going to see Porcelain Raft and Smith Westerns play Paradise Rock and I couldn’t be more excited. This is going to be such an epic show, and by some miracle tickets are still available. Porcelain Raft’s debut record Strange Weekend came out on Tuesday and I can’t stop listening to it. I am so stoked to see some of my favorite songs on the record performed live for the first time, and to see Smith Westerns again! Check out some of my favorite songs from both bands below and if you’re in town too make sure you check out the show!

Finished reading Le Freak by Nile Rodgers in my coffee shop stop this weekend, Cafe 1369. You have to get and read this book!!

in the end, in the end, there’s nothing more to life than love, is there? // Obsessed xx: Snow Patrol “In The End”

25 Jan

I am so stoked Snow Patrol is back with a new album and touring again. I already bought my ticket to see them with Ed Sheeran in Philadelphia and absolutely cannot wait. “In The End” is such a gorgeous song off their new album Fallen Empires. Lead singer Gary Lightbody has always been such an incredible and inspiring lyricist and songwriter, and this song sums it up. I can’t stop listening to it. Heart-melting and hopeful, Snow Patrol’s specialty! Make sure you check out their tour dates here if you haven’t already!

obsessed xx: The Shins “Simple Song”

23 Jan

This year, there seems to have been announcement after announcement of my previously “on-hiatus” bands getting back together/releasing new albums: The Killers, Bloc Party, The Shins… If that excitement wasn’t enough, when I heard The Shins new single “Simple Song” my heart melted and my mind immediately rushed back to when I first heard The Shins, an obvious love-at-first-listen. James Mercer is an incredible songwriter. His lyrics are always so heartfelt and beautiful, and this song is just further proof of that. The new album from The Shins, Port Of Morrow will release on March 20th, and simple song is available now for download! The Shins also are also apart of the incredible Coachella lineup for all you lucky festival goers! Make sure you check them out live.
