So you all can probably tell I am obsessed with Alt-J even though I can’t understand a damn word the lead singer says. Their album An Awesome Wave is out now so make sure you get your copy, your ears will thank you. Basically, I’ve loved everything I’ve heard from Alt-J which makes buying their album a no-brainer. Known for their sometimes incomprehensible vocals/lyrics, Alt-J makes exciting, epic, strange, layered, incredible music that absolutely rocks and sounds like no one else out there now. Whenever I am at work and don’t have all my music on me, I get lost on Youtube listening to some of my favorite songs randomly. Luckily, of the things that brings the most sunshine to my life is Youtube comments. Some of the top comments can be absolutely hilarious or in this case, epically useful. When listening to one of my favorite Alt-J songs, “Fitzpleasure” I came across this top comment:
“How to get the most out of Alt-J;
1. Listen to this song.
2. Open another tab of the same song.
3. Play the song from the other tab exactly 5:00 seconds later.
4. Watch your mind explode.
My Pleasure.”
Obviously, I did this right away..and it did blow my mind. So you should do it too.. I am going to make it easy and put this video in here twice so you don’t even have to open a new window. You’re Welcome.
Siiiiick!! Disclosure released their first music video ever for their track “Control” featuring Ria Ritchie on vocals. Make sure you check out Disclosure’s The Face EP through Greco Roman. Tonight they are playing Visions in London before heading to Spain next week. Check out more of their tour dates here!
Dreamy!! Theme Park are back with a new single from their debut album due out in October! “Jamaica” is out the 13th of August. What an absolutely feel good track. Just what I needed to hear to soundtrack the gorgeous, sunny, perfect weather day in Philly today. Theme Park will be on tour in the UK including dates with Bloc Party!! Make sure you check them out on tour if you can and keep an eye out for their debut album in October.
UMMMMM, OBSESSED. Rough day? Put Outer Limitz “I Kontact” on and immediately watch the rain cloud following you depart and the sun shine through. This song is incredibly upbeat, fun, danceable and makes my heart happy. I am so into the beat, and the lyrics and melody are so catchy. This song is definitely a major jam on my summer soundtrack. “I Kontact” is available now on Itunes in the UK and US so make sure you get your copy for easy repeat listening!
I fell in love with the music of Orlando Higginbottom (or Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs) when I heard his single “Trouble” in May 2011. After a year of pining over him and his music, hearing and obsessing over other singles he released including “Household Goods”, “Garden”, “Tapes & Money”, “American Dream Part II”, and “Stronger”, my heart nearly stopped when I learned his album was finally coming out early this month. When you are infatuated with five songs you know are on the same album, it’s safe to the assume the rest of the album is bound to be pure magic.
Let’s just say upon first listen of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs debut album Trouble, my first thought was “If this album were a boy, I would take him to Las Vegas, marry him upon arrival in a chapel, and then plan a more elaborate wedding for our families to attend in a field of sunflowers. But marriage is immediately necessary as I would be the happiest girl for the rest of my life”. The album has elements of everything I love: dreamy vocals, thrilling and climactic builds, and songs for love, lust, crushes, breakups, and overall dancing. The gorgeous intro track “Promises” draws you in with an airy, ethereal, and relaxing sound; soon progressing into a fun, epic, beach party with vocals immediately daring you to “go on set fire, burn up my night”. With so many incredible songs we haven’t heard yet on the album until now, it is easy to get lost in all 14 songs and impossible to not move to. The passion and love I have for these songs never seems to end no matter how many times I listen to them individually or with the album as a whole. Trouble which is exactly one hour long, is the perfect album to wake up to, get ready to, go out to, stay in to, work to, work out to, live and love to. Whenever any song off the album comes into my head a smile on my face appears.
I had the incredible opportunity of seeing Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs play in Brooklyn then DJ an after party and it was one of the best/ most fun nights of my life. Luckily, he is coming back to the US in August to play two dates in NY before heading to Lollapalooza, the west coast and Canada. Make sure you pick up your copy of Trouble at your local record store and see Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs in a city near you, your dancing shoes and heart will love you for life!

Yes!!!!!!! I know I loved (and just wrote about) Passion Pit’s song/video for “Take A Walk”, but this new song from Passion Pit’s upcoming album Gossamer called “I’ll Be Alright” sounds like home. This song everything I ever wanted from new Passion Pit, it has their unmistakeable sound and excitement while pushing boundaries even further with intensity, lyrics, and just sounds perfect for summer. It’s an audio ray of sunshine. I can’t wait to hear this song live when I see Passion Pit at Firefly Music Festival in July!!
What a gorgeous day here in Philly! The sun is shining and it’s a cool 95 degrees and I can’t stop smiling. I am super stoked to see The Hives tonight at the Electric Factory, but I can’t help but be a little envious of my Brooklyn/NYC friends that can check out House Of Vans tonight for free to see Tanlines and The Rapture. I love both bands so much and I especially would love to see Tanlines perform this song tonight. “All Of Me” is the second single from their new album Mixed Emotionsout now. If you are in the NYC area or can get there tonight, make sure you check out this awesome show! If not, see you at The Hives show tonight Philly!
Passion Pit created a dizzying music video for their new single “Take A Walk” from their upcoming album Gossamer which releases July 24th. The video puts you in the view of a ball that really gets around. Even better it gets around our town as Philadelphia is featured in the video! Passion Pit are starting tour in the US late June in Boston and they are playing several festivals including recently announced Outside Lands Festival and Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware which I absolutely cannot wait for. Check out their new video below and make sure you check them out on tour in a city near you!
Sick sick sick!!! I love music that completely rocks with a strong female lead. When I found out the entire band was women that rock I was stoked! Listening to Savages “Husbands” I couldn’t help but love the dirty guitar sound and Patti Smith-channeling vocals. Savages are a four-piece all-girl band from London and you can pre-order their 7″ single through Pop Noire Records here.
Happy Sunday and Father’s Day! This weekend has been beautiful! I’ve gone back to the suburbs to visit my family and friends from home and it has been incredible. One song I haven’t been able to get out of my head this week is “Colour Fade” by Funeral Suits. I absolutely adore this song by the four-piece Irish band. “Colour Fade” is Funeral Suits hauntingly beautiful single out July 16th through Model Citizen Records. I am obsessed with the heart wrenching guitar sound, mixed with passionate vocals and gorgeous harmonies. The epic music video was directed by Vincent Gallagher. Funeral Suits debut album Lily of the Valley produced by Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths) is out now so make sure you get your copy from your local record store! Hope you all have a great rest of your weekend with people you love.
