Despite New York being completely hammered by a severe snowstorm over the past weekend, fans still flocked to see French supergroup, L’Imperatrice, for a 2-night showcase at Terminal 5 in New York City.

L’Imperatrice transported the crowd into an immersive disco funk space odyssey that harkens back to the golden age of analog synthesizers and soul-infused neo city pop. The band made quick work into drawing the sold-out crowd deep into their pocket through their hypnotic control of rhythm and space and efficient musical precision. Each band member are at the top of their game with effortless stage chemistry.

The most notable highlight from the show was during one of my favorite new songs, “Me da igual” (from their highly acclaimed latest album, Pulsar). The song’s soulful immediacy and upbeat melodic catchiness complemented by Louve’s alluring, elegant vocals, which were infectious, warm, and comforting. Her voice blended seamlessly with her bandmates’ signature grooves, creating a truly mesmerizing performance.

This high-energy vibe carried throughout the night, with other highlights including favorites like “Love From the Other Side” (with sly fitting callbacks to “Voodoo?“), “Amour ex Machina,” “Agitations tropicales.” The set even included a crowd-pleasing cover of Daft Punk’s “Aerodynamic.” The night was an unforgettable trip that felt like a retro futurist dance party.
