late night listen xx: Ben Khan “Drive (Part 1)”

15 Apr

Ben Khan

I’m back from a road trip from Philly to Coachella and 4 glorious, ridiculous, absolutely incredible days in California. After two hours of sleep and a day working, I could not be more pumped to deliver you a dark, sultry, addictive new track from British dreamboat Ben Khan for tonight’s late night listen.

I’ve had “Drive (Part 1)” on repeat all day and definitely added it to the Makeout Music Playlist for your hearing pleasure. The track is from Ben Khan’s upcoming 1992 EP due out May 5th which you can pre-order now here! I’m already obsessed with the EP and can’t wait to hear more new music and am looking forward to his full length album. His music is perfect for getting down in a live setting and I’m also hoping he heads over to the States to grace us all with those knee-weakening tunes in concert.

To keep up with Ben Khan, follow him on Facebook, Soundcloud, Twitter, and track future shows on Songkick here.

obsessed xx: The 1975 new record out now via Dirty Hit & Vagrant!!!!

11 Sep

If you haven’t already had your copy of The 1975‘s self-titled debut album spinning for the past week, (you probably don’t live in the UK as it is the #1 album right now) stop sleeping on it and get your copy right now.

I’ve been a fan of The 1975 for a while now, as many of you have. They have teased us for a year of incredible EPs, touring and playing some of the new tracks live, all leading up to this generous 16 song debut album of new songs and remastered favorites. You can hear their John-Hughes-movie-soundtrack influence as the album flows perfectly to each new track, setting a new scene, telling a new story. Listening to the record for the first time is so exciting, going into it, you think you already have a favorite song from their EPs, but then you find new favorite songs like “Heart Out” (that saxophone though!), and the heart-wrenching “Robbers”. One of the hardest working band of babes bands in music right now, this release is just the beginning for them. They are touring the UK right now, and coming back to the US in October. The 1975 will be making their way to Philly to play Union Transfer on October 12th! Tickets are only $15, I would get yours now here or at the box office because they will sell out and this will be one of the best live shows you see this year. The 1975 will be going home to UK to tour for a couple months in early 2014, so whether you live in the US or the UK make sure you keep up with their tour dates here and see them live as soon as you can.

Make sure you get your copy of The 1975’s debut album The 1975 now on iTunes, iTunes Deluxe, Amazon, The 1975 store, or your local record shop. The album will definitely one of your favorites in your collection!

obsessed xx: New track from The 1975 “Haunt // Bed” from their forthcoming “IV” EP!!!

8 May

The 1975 Logo

The 1975 released the gorgeous second track of their forthcoming IV EP, “Haunt // Bed” due out the 20th of May on Dirty Hit / Polydor in the UK. Hauntingly beautiful and slow dance ready, “Haunt // Bed” is five minutes and five seconds of pure heart-wrenching heaven. With a repetition of the phrase “I’m not scared” that gets stuck in your head and heart so quickly, the song feels like something you now know you needed in your life, without knowing anything was missing.

The 1975 have been selling out shows across the globe and rightfully so, I’ve seen them twice since March and I cannot get enough. They are touring the UK at the end of the month and coming back to the US in June to tour with another one of my favorite bands, The Neighbourhood. lovelovelove xx: The 1975 at KFN recap / Free show tonight in NYC!!

29 Mar

Cher Dunn 1975 72

Last night was one of the most fun nights of my life. I go to a lot of shows, but this one in particular was special. Bringing 8 of my favorite people and meeting 5 more at the venue, I walked in to a nearly sold out Kung Fu Necktie last night just in time to catch Cruiser open for The 1975. I’ve never seen so many people at KFN for a show, a bit overwhelming at first, I was really fucking excited that one of my favorite bands right now were about to play in front of so many fans in my city. Once Cruiser ended we made our (tricky) moves to find our path straight to the front bit of space between the band and the crowd that awkwardly always seems to be there since people are scared to stand in front of the stage. My friends moved right in ready to dance and that we did, nonstop, for the entire time 1975 was on stage. Playing mostly new songs off their upcoming album, ever new track was a beautiful suprise, getting me so stoked for the new album it kills me I have to wait another day…for them to go back to London to finish recording it (fair). Although I was in my groove I did take a look around and couldn’t help but smile at all the people in the crowd, smiling, dancing, taking pictures like crazy. I am pretty sure everyone there had an incredible time, even the super drunk dude next to me that was falling asleep standing up, as I took liberty to shake him a bit and make him dance. The show ended after a decent time but way too soon for the audience. As they announced their last song sighs of crushed hearts poured out from the crowd, but luckily, they promised they would be back later this summer to play at Johnny Brenda’s on their tour supporting the brilliant band The Neighbourhood. For me, my friends, and all the fans at that show I think it’s safe to say that day can’t come soon enough, and same goes for their debut record.

Tonight The 1975 are playing a free show in New York City at Santos Party House!! For all you lucky kids in NYC this is definitely something you should be doing to start off your night tonight! They go on at 8:30 sharp so make sure you get there ASAP to make sure you get in before the venue is at capacity!

obsessed xx: The 1975 “Sex” EP / Win tickets for their show at KFN tomorrow night!!

27 Mar

The 1975 4

During SXSW I took my best friend to see The 1975. We both had bands we wanted to see, some which played at the same time, but I knew she would love them and made sure this was one show she didn’t miss. She saw them as they set up, heard the lead singer, Matty, announce that they were about to play a song called “Sex” and immediately said to me, “The most beautiful boys in the world…of course they have a song called ‘Sex’!”. Funny, but true, The 1975’s Sex EP is just as hot as is sounds.

More focused on an ethereal sound than their other EPs the first track “Intro/Set 3” draws you into the EP and the second track “Undo” continues that state of absolute bliss. The third and title track “Sex” hits you with upbeat rock and cheeky lyrics:

Sex Lyrics mylifeinsound

Mirroring the last track of their Music For Cars EP and one of my favorite songs “Me”, the last track of the Sex EP “You” really ties the EP together, almost as if it borrows something you love from each track. With an epic build and layered chorus at the end that casually fades to silence you can’t press replay fast enough. Hearing a mixture of all their EPs live is going to be awesome tomorrow, and I can’t wait to bring all my friends from home to witness it. Listen to the Sex EP below and listen to it live person tomorrow at KFN!

The 1975 will be in Philly this Thursday playing a show at Kung Fu Necktie with Cruiser. The show starts at 8PM and you can get tickets here or by commenting on this photo to win tickets on my Facebook page!

4 DAYS OF THE 1975 xx: DAY 1 Win tickets to see The 1975 at KFN this Thursday in Philly!!!!

25 Mar

Cher Dunn 1975

One of my top favorite bands, The 1975 are touring the US after crushing it at SXSW, and they are making a stop in Philly this Thursday at Kung Fu Necktie!! The Manchester boys have released some of the most gorgeous, breathtaking EPs including Music For Cars, Sex, and Face Down which leave you spending way to much time pressing play on SoundCloud, praying for a debut album you could easily just put on repeat. The show Thursday night is over half way sold out, so get your tickets here or win them through mylifeinsound!! The show is $10 and starts at 8PM, make sure you get there on time so you don’t miss Cruiser, a dreamy band from Philly who are opening for The 1975 and will get the dance party started.

I was able to catch The 1975 live at SXSW and I have to say, no bias they were one of my top favorite shows I saw at the festival, including Rudimental and NZCA/Lines. The sound at the venue was fucked up and their keyboard wasn’t working but without flinching The 1975 brought so much energy and power to the sunny rooftop stage it didn’t even matter. It’s hard not to pass out watching some of the most beautiful boys making such addicting, glorious music. So make sure you bring your friends, help each other keep calm and dance on at The 1975 show this Thursday at Kung Fu Necktie!

To win tickets to The 1975 this Thursday at KFN “like” my page and The 1975 on Facebook, and comment on the photo on my Facebook page saying you want to win! I have two pairs of tickets to give away so make sure your friends enter too!

obsessed xx: The 1975 “Sex”

4 Nov

Damn, it’s easy to forget about your boyfriend when you see/hear this band.

The 1975 (formerly Big Sleep) and back with some wicked tunes on their SEX EP dropping November 19th in the UK and November 20th in the US. You can pre-order the EP now on iTunes, but of course I encourage you to buy it on vinyl when it arrives at your local record store.

The music video for the title track “Sex” was gorgeously directed by James Booth and looks a lot like my bedroom with all the posters on the wall… here’s hoping next time they film a music video it’s actually in my bedroom.

Check out the music video for “Sex” below and sample some of their tracks via Soundcloud below.
