Opening Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s first show in Washington D.C was local artist, DJ Lemz. He had the growing audience moving as they awaited Ellis-Bextor’s entrance.
As soon as Sophie Ellis-Bextor walked on stage, accompanied by her band in various animal masks, she captivated the crowd. She kept the set moving energetically with quick breaks in between songs and constant dancing. She had the audience participating throughout the set by clapping to the beat, doing motions, and singing callbacks. The crowd was excited to be involved, even giving her a multiple minute long burst of applause at one point in the performance.
Throughout the show there was constant chatter about when she would play her song “Murder on the Dancefloor.” This famed song was recently used in the hit film, Saltburn, and certainly drew crowds to see her this evening. Ellis-Bextor kept fans waiting as she saved it for her final song for the night. The energy during this finale was like no other, but Sophie is more than just this hit song. Her music is the energetic disco on the brink of resurging. It had the crowd singing throughout the whole performance, especially during other iconic disco moments, such as a dance interlude to “Gimme Gimme” by ABBA.
