Matt Maltese is a British singer songwriter who made a name for himself through his viral indie ballad “As the World Caves In” that was popularized in 2021 after its 2017 release. The intimate experience remained respectful and friendly, bringing a much-needed sense of community to the people of Washington D.C.

His September performance of the Fillmore drew in a crowd of devoted and faithful plans who brought equal enthusiasm to each song played. They gave earnestly passionate support to the opening act, Cornelia Murr, through some audio technical problems. Praising her impressive voice and heavenly aesthetic. Maltese’s vocal performance was supported by a 3-person band and backing vocalist, as well as a few songs featuring him on the piano.

Midway through the evening he introduces his biggest hit; and jokes about a popular rumor that the song was written about his cat. Regardless of the true inspiration, it is clear “As the World Caves In” is about a deeply passionate connection, whether that love is romantic or otherwise. As the first notes play, audience members instinctually hold their companions tighter. Emulating the same feeling as his music, Maltese’s concert brought a warmth that kept audience members enamored by his talent and connected with one another.
