20 Apr

Thinking of and sending all the positive thoughts, vibes and prayers to Twin Shadow and his entire band and crew this afternoon. Driving on Friday morning, April 17th, Twin Shadow’s tour bus hit a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70 in the city of Aurora, Colorado. The circumstances of the accident are still under investigation.

From the Twin Shadow camp:

“There were 12 people on the tour bus consisting of band and crew. Everyone was taken to two local hospitals. At this time both driver John Crawford and Twin Shadow drummer Andy Bauer remain hospitalized, in serious condition. George Lewis Jr. AKA Twin Shadow will be undergoing reconstructive hand surgery this week.

While everyone involved in the accident recovers, Twin Shadow are postponing tour dates scheduled for April 21- May 22nd.

The band and crew send a heartfelt thanks to everyone in Colorado and beyond who have helped through this difficult time.

if you’re not affected you’re not paying attention: Stop KONY

8 Mar

I was very stoked to see that not only my friends but some of my favorite bands, artists, and musicians were sharing a link to Invisible Children‘s video on Joseph Kony, a man who has been getting away with the most heinous crimes to humanity for far too long. I highly respect any of my favorite bands and musicians who stick up for what they believe in and use their platform to tell their fans about important issues and what they can do about them. When watching this video, you should not only take in the facts, but realize that watching is video is merely scratching the surface. Dive into the issues, and continue to research, through only the most trustworthy sources about what is happening. You should also take away from the video the importance of not only supporting important non-profits like Invisible Children through monetary means you might not have, but instead how much of an impact you can make just by using your voice, the voice you do have, by telling your friends about what is going on, what they can do, and what you can do together. I think people forget that those in the government work for US. WE elect them, if we want something we need to tell them, and if enough of us do, they will have to work on it, because if not they can lose their job and not get reelected. It takes a few seconds to sign an online petition, and only a few minutes to make a phone call or write a letter to a local, state, or national representative. As someone who has signed and collected many petitions, writes letters and volunteers, I can tell you that it does work. The more you actively try to change the world, and inspire others to do the same, the more likely the world will become a better place. There is strength in numbers and if your fire and courage inspires just one other person to take action too, you’ve already made a big difference. I do not condone killing in any way shape or form, no matter how awful a person is. I feel making an example of someone by putting them in prison for life is a far more powerful message to the person, and the world, that we as one society will not let anyone commit such terrible crimes against humanity and get away with it. It’s been long enough, take action, and please look into other non-profits aiding those who need it, especially Oxfam America, they do so much good work for so many people.

obsessed xx: Friends in the US and around the world, help stop SOPA & PIPA and save the internet and music!!!

18 Jan

Hey all,
I am writing a very important message from the bottom of my heart. The U.S. government has gone a little crazy again apparently, and wrote a bill to basically censor everything we love on the internet. That means for Americans there will be no more youtube, images, blog sites, google, wikipedia, reddit, you name it. Websites you go to everyday, that spark creativity and education (including musical education) gone! A sample post from me after this bill passed would be this:

[No photo of the band]
First Aid Kit consists of two gorgeous sisters from Stockholm, Sweden who make absolutely beautiful music together. “Emmylou” is the second single from their new album, The Lion’s Roar comes out next Tuesday, January 24th. “Emmylou” is such an incredible song. Good luck trying to hear or find it, because it is not posted anywhere on our internet, because it’s censored.

Obviously, that is no fun, for anyone. Make sure your favorite bands and sites to find new incredible music are not blocked! Click here to sign a petition today. If you live outside the US please, for the love of all that is good, help us, also by clicking here.

Thank you so, so much in advance and as always for reading.

Love you forever,

A sad day for music fans: Amy Winehouse dies at 27. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and the entire Daptone Records family issue a statement

23 Jul

It is a sad day for music fans. I am absolutely gutted to hear that Amy Winehouse has passed away. She was an incredible talent and I am so glad she graced us with her music for as long as she did. My heart and thoughts go out to all of her family and friends. The following Statement is being issued on behalf of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and the entire Daptone Records Family:

“We are very sad to have lost Amy Winehouse today. She was one of a kind and we were fortunate to have had the chance to make music with her. She was always gracious and a pleasure to work with in the studio and on the road. She brought a lot of people joy with her voice and her irreverent personality. It is a tragedy that she was taken from us so soon when she had much more music to give.”

This is one of my absolute favorites of hers, let’s celebrate her talent together:

Stay safe everyone. Look out for each other.
