So you’re starting a rock band. You have your guitar, check. Bass, check. Drums, check. Microkorg, check. Wait, what? A bit unconventional maybe, but Memphis rockers Nots made it work as they delivered heavy garage punk textured by wavy synth patches to a PBR-drinking crowd at Everybody Hits on a beautiful Wednesday Fall night. Some of the tones highlighted the poppy-but-still-heavy fuzzed-out hooks and chord progressions while some helped wash out the band’s spacious white noise interludes. The driving beats maintained a high-paced tempo with the audience nodding in time under the moody lighting during the intimate performance while front woman Natalie Hoffman serenaded us all with bratty, punching vocals. One part Metz, one part Le Tigre, one part Blouse with short songs packed with lots going on, check out their new LP Cosmetic out on Goner Records.
Don’t miss this badass band of babes when they head to your town. NOTS play Ace of Cups tonight in Columbus, Ohio, before heading to Marble Bar in Detroit tomorrow. More tour dates below!
