On the evening of Thursday, April 17th, Lexa Gates made her mark on one of Philadelphia’s most favored local venues. Inside the basement of The Fillmore, the historic 125-year-old building in the city’s Fishtown District, sits The Foundry. This secondary venue provides a smaller, far more intimate space for artists to share precious nights with their most dedicated fans.
The cherished atmosphere of the basement venue set the scene for not only Gates’ enchanting set, but opener Jonah Love, and a few of his titles as well, including hit single “Meet Me Home”, and crowd favorite, “Whereabouts”.
Gates has grown up surrounded by music, her own mother having once been a hobbyist singer/songwriter, performing at local cafes in Puerto Rico. At the young age of seventeen, Gates began making music of her own, releasing her debut album, Order of Events, in 2020. The Hip – Hop / Rap artist released her newest album, Elite Vessel, in October of last year.
Philadelphia marking the first stop on her mini U.S run of The Elite Vessel Tour, Gates gathered a sold out crowd of fans on the Thursday evening of her performance. The enigmatic crowd was anticipating an enthralling show, and Lexa did not disappoint. Taking the stage, Gates opened her set with her song “If I Die, I Die.” A crowd favorite, the audience repeated every lyric back, a blissful smile atop the artist’s face to the crowd’s recognition of one her most successful hits.
Later through the night, performing additional hits including “Lately, Nothing”, “Stupid”, and “Rotten to the Core.” The audience moved in sync to the beats and rhythms, swept up into the electric energy of her performance. To conclude, Gates closed her set with her encore performance of “Where Are You.”
