A few months ago I was at happy hour with a few friends chatting about new music and upcoming concerts. I was eager to break out of my usual Spotify rotation and discover fresh sounds, especially from smaller local bands I could both listen to and photograph. My friend Abby opened her concert calendar, overflowing with upcoming shows from bands that had completely escaped my radar. One of the bands she mentioned was HARBOUR; I looked them up and immediately put in a request to cover them two months later. Their sound instantly drew me in. Their strong guitar riffs, excellent vocals, and dreamy rock that veers slightly into surf rock matched my desire to re-enter the pop-punk bubble of music I had drifted away from recently. Every song they played makes you want to bop around, snap your fingers, and sway along.

Fast forward to August and their show at the Theater of the Living Arts. Although I had expected some more banter between the HARBOUR and the crowd, the 5-piece band went straight into their expertly curated hour and a half long set to a comfortably packed venue. Their electric guitar riffs and perfectly crafted vocals bounced seamlessly off the walls bringing much joy to my live music starved brain.

Joining them on tour was singer Ally Holliday, whose mellow and dreamy sound felt better suited for a quiet room than a loud concert hall. While not the rock and roll I had expected that night, she’s definitely someone I’d put on to unwind!

Up next they brought out The Orphan The Poet. I hadn’t heard of the band before they took the stage, but by the end of their set I knew I’d be first in line to photograph them the next time they’re in town. Full of energy, they hit the stage and immediately connected with a crowd made up of both fans who already knew them and others just discovering a new band to add to their rotation. While only 3 men strong, they brought the tight pop-punk vocals and riffs filling up the hall with joy and excitement.

Listen to HARBOUR here!
