new music video: BRAIDS “MINISKIRT” + Philly show review!!

Braids by Cher Dunn mylifeinsound

Saturday night, BRAIDS opened the second sold-out Purity Ring show at Union Transfer in Philadelphia, taking the stage after Born Gold. Although I’m sure most of the crowd was there for Purity Ring, I was buzzing to see BRAIDS again. I’ve been a long time fan and I really wanted to see and hear some of their new music live, and what an absolute gift that was. By the end of the show it was clear that most if not all of the Purity Ring fans at Union Transfer left a fan of BRAIDS as well, and rightfully so. BRAIDS played an absolutely moving set, and their new single “MINISKIRT” which they released a new music video for yesterday was one of the many highlights.

The opening bands that night had some computer/technical issues with their sets, and after condemning Apple for a few minutes, BRAIDS came back harder and more powerful than before. I’ve been seeing BRAIDS live for a few years now and it’s incredible to watch them grow as a band, writers, and performers. Not to mention, seeing three true friends having an absolute time with each other on stage added to their uplifting, moving and fun show. With soaring vocals, powerful lyricism, and epic instrumentals BRAIDS cut through the crowd and even had the drunk people in the back completely quiet and listening. The live set had me wanting their new album Deep in the Iris on vinyl immediately. The band played like they were the headliner and they easily could have been. The Born Gold, BRAIDS, and Purity Ring tour continues in Vermont tonight, for tickets and more tour information follow them on Songkick here.
