Tell Me How You Really Feel, Seriously.
Just a few short weeks ago, Courtney Barnett dropped a very relatable album entitled, Tell me how you really feel. I had the immense pleasure of capturing her prior to that album release at Union Transfer along with a sold-out crowd.
The set list was a bit more special for this show in particular. Barnett played her entire new album from start to finish. Yes, all new music was debuted. This performance is ranked in my top shows this year to date. Who could have asked for a better Wednesday night than mellowing out at the old spaghetti factory listening to BRAND NEW tunes by Barnett? Rhetorical question, of course.
Barnett’s garage-rock infused tunes and pop conversational voice kept friends swaying, dancing, and drinking the entire night. I wasn’t even mad that I couldn’t see the stage, given I’m 5’1”, mainly because I found myself just closing my eyes and letting myself appreciate the music and energy around me.
Let’s talk about the finale though. Our well-known Philly friend, Kurt Vile, accompanied Barnett on stage for the encore. Listeners were treated to “Over Everything” off of Lotta Sea Lice, the collab album from the two released in 2017. Now, if hearing new music for an entire set list is icing on the cake, this duo is the cherry on top.
Looking to catch Courtney Barnett on tour? Look no further than here. One of my favorite shows this year, it will not disappoint.
Tell me how you really feel is out now and well worth your while to take for a spin.
