Our girl Meghan Bucci rounds up some of the upcoming Philly shows we are so stoked to see

Be on the lookout! Rad shows to see in Philly!

Guys, “Spring” has been here for almost a month. While the vast majority of us likely don’t necessarily agree, the influx of tours and concerts in Philly certainly makes me feel like spring is actually here. Check out a few bands that I’ve pegged as a must-see for the spring.

Square Peg Round Hole

sprh-7

Square Peg Round Hole is opening for Lotus at Union Transfer TONIGHT! Friday April 13th. I try to catch these guys every time they book in Philly which, as Philly natives, happens fairly often (count yourselves as lucky music lovers). I’ve raved about these dudes before and I’ve rave about them again. AMAZING percussionists that incorporate so many different genres into their ambient tunes. They’ll knock your socks off with some piercing beats and likely entrance you with their use of lights. Doors at 8pm. Show at 9pm. Get your tickets now here!

Check out their bandcamp page here!

Can’t make it to the show tonight? Don’t fret. SPRH has another show at World Cafe Live – Upstairs on April 26th. You can get your tickets now here!

Waxahatchee/Hurray for the Riff Raff

Have you ever seen a more killer gal squad meshed together on ONE concert bill? If you have to ask, just go. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the tour posted. This bill is coming to you via Union Transfer on April 16th. Waxahatchee’s most recent album, Out in the Storm, is about the reawakened woman breathing life into those who have felt heartbreak and betrayal. Hurray for the Riff Raff is led by front woman Alynda Segarra and promises some americana folk blues to get you moving. This is a MUST SEE. Don’t let those Monday’s get you down. What a perfect night to spend with some rad gals listening to some pretty awesome tunes. Doors at 7pm. Show at 8pm. Get your tickets here!

Unknown Mortal Orchestra

umo-2018

Since 2015 guys, I have been waiting for new UMO music. The groups fourth album Sex and Food just dropped on April 8th. Coming to Philly on April 28th at Union Transfer, the UMO’s psychedelia mentality coupled with synthesizers and lyrics that tickle you this is a show your feet do not want to miss. What better way to spend a Saturday night then grooving with Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Get your tickets now here!

Listen to the album:

Soccer Mommy

Soccer Mommy front woman Sophie Allison dropped a new album, Clean, in early March. Raving reviews followed quickly from the music review gods/goddesses. I caught Sophie at the Church a year or so back opening up for Jay Som. I was whisked away by the sharp lyrics and toe tapping alternative pop melodies. Soccer Mommy snagged a headlining gig now at Johnny Brenda’s on May 3rd. Get your tickets now here!

Jorja Smith

With a voice that reminds you of Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys and Amy Winehouse, Jorja Smith is taking the R&B world by storm. Jorja Smith is coming to the Foundry on May 11th which is unfortunately a sold-out show. If you have tickets, kudos. If not, start looping her music asap!

Margaret Glaspy

The wonderfully whimsical and blush-worthy Margaret Glaspy is coming back Johnny Brenda’s on May 13th. Glaspy’s lyrical songwriting coupled with her raspy rock edge voice is beyond captivating. Glaspy released a third EP, Born Yesterday in February. She talks a bit about the EP on the podcast All Songs Considered. My hopes are high that we’ll hear some new music at this show. Bring a loved one, bring a sibling, bring your mom (it’s mom’s day ya know). I have no doubt that you will leave the concert with a girl-crush. Get your tickets now here!

Har Mar Superstar

If you’ve had the pleasure of seeing Sean Tillman (a.k.a. Har Mar Superstar) live you know the performance does not disappoint. With choreographed moves and Tillman’s enticing voice, he’s gone a step further to put on a show where he pays tribute to Sam Cooke. This promises to be such an intimate performance, that another show was added at Boot & Saddle on May 16th. The 10pm show is sold out but the 7pm early show still has tickets available. Don’t hesitate! This is truly an evening to not miss. Get your tickets now here!

Guys, this list doesn’t even begin to put a dent on how many rad concerts are coming through Philly in the next month. Stay tuned for more and keep on listening.

xx Meghan
