Shannen Moser’s Record Release in Philly was everything a girl could dream of.

Philly folk queen Shannen Moser released a new album titled I’ll Sing and it has me ready for fall. The album also has me in tears. The sophomore album to Oh, My Heart, I’ll Sing was released in early September by Lame-O-Records. The album comparably continues to showcase Moser’s incredible talent as a songwriter. Introspective lyrics paired with Moser’s soft-folky vocals create an easy listening for your ear holes.

I have been listening to Moser for years and am sad to say I have not had the pleasure of seeing her perform live until recently at the First Unitarian Church for her album release party. Moser’s 45-minute set included two acoustic guitars and a cello. Creating the exact ambiance, I would expect for the venue, crowd, and songs sung. Beginning the night with songs like “Haircut” and “Joanna” off of I’ll Sing, Moser’s performance cultivated a sense of comfort in the crowd. Shutting out any atrocities from the outside and letting the walls of the venue cushion you into enjoying a simply earnest performance.

Moser’s songs are ones that continually echo with true observations and ones that hit you right where those feelings have been building up. Hearing “Baby Blue” live this past weekend hit home for me. A song about the blues and what I can relate to regarding mental illness, that Moser also has mentioned on social media posts, is not something to be taken lightly. Taking the very simply, one verse song is so gosh dang relatable.

“Oh baby blue, what took you so long to show up? / How long do you plan on staying? / You take so much, you take it all / You take the life, I tell you what / I would sell, sell my soul / I would give it all back / I would pawn it all off / If you’d stay away from me.”

I swayed. I teared up. My soul felt renewed. Moser is a gorgeous piece of Americana, who also happens to be a philly local, that should not be missed. Go listen folks. Bother albums are on sale on Lame-O-Records website. Moser is also still on tour. Check out her dates below.
