Swearin’ is BACK. It was yet another very humid evening in the city of brotherly love, where I had the immense pleasure of seeing Swearin’ live at one of my favorite venues in the city. Sweating under the lights of that wonderfully carpeted stage, Swearin’ opened with “Big Change,” the first track off of their recently released album Fall into the Sun. The first minute and a half Allison Crutchfield’s soft vocals flirt with our ears. The rest of the band then joins reminding us exactly what we’ve been missing.
Songs performed off of the new album like “Dog Pile” and “Oil and Water” are a wonderful example of how bands mature and grow. True D.I.Y. punk. With Gilbride and Crutchfield alternating songwriting duties and vocals, you could really feel the friendship journey this group has taken together since their start in 2011. “Dogpile” tickles your ears with its 80s punk-pop chord progressions and Gilbride’s spunky vocals.
The group intuitively hits on all of our mid-20 feels. Snarky lyrics. Melodically genuine vocals. The tracks are like mini-anthems. That pep talk we need in the morning. The sleepy tea we drink to help us decompress. Hoping for myself and the likes of music lovers out there that Swearin’ keeps writing and recording. Check out the full set list from the night!
